Apex Motorsports Catch Can - LS3 Install and First Impressions
I had the opportunity to swing by Apex Motorsports and pick up a catch can as well as install it with Chase and Paul's help.
The first thing that you'll notice about the catch can is that that bad boy just feels solid in your hand and well made. The can and the mounting bracket both come in a satin/matte black anodized finish. The can itself is larger than some of it competitors but it fits right into the engine bay as if it belongs there. It has one inlet and 3 outlets and comes with some caps for any un-utilized outlets. It is a 3 piece can which includes the outer shell and the inner "catching/filter" unit that holds the stainless substrate. The install itself was pretty straight forward and was only hampered by a hot engine and some akwardly aligned PCV line clips. We removed the throttle body for better access to the PCV clips but this may be isolated to my specific car and may not be necessary for others. It also wasn't necessary for me to buy a ported throttle body while I was there but I figured while it was off, why not The kit comes with enough hose that you'll cut to size depending on which outlets you use. I also understand that the L99 requires quite a bit more hose than the SS/ZL1 versions. Anyway, on to the pictures! Heres a before picture Catch can with bracket installed Thread taping the fittings Catch can with fittings Installing to the radiator with a helping hand and attached Catch can with hose attached (inlet on top, outlet on side) after measuring lengths Installing the ported throttle body with catch can installed Post-install pics |

Looks like a very nice product. I am impressed. If I didn't already have an Elite unit I would get one.

This looks like a quality unit. I've not seen any other way to mount this can though. Those of us who have a supercharger coolant tank mounted where this is supposed to mount would be out of luck for this can. Just sayin.

This is a quality catch can. Very solid and well made. I installed it in a parking lot at a Cars and Coffee meet here in Louisville in about 30 minutes. Below is a picture of what it has caught after 233 miles on my car. I am quite pleased with this product and level of detail / craftsmanship that went into the product.

Just fabricate a bracket and mount it wherever you want! Looks like a nice piece. How does this one drain?

Looks great. Just like stated above if I didn't already have the elite can I would seriously consider this can.

Was on waiting list for R/X catch can, but this looks like a better deal. Just ordered this one and will contact them to cancel the R/X pending order.
My SS has about 6k on it, so hopefully not too much buildup has occurred yet.
