How low does the oil level have to get before the oil light comes on?
It will come on when you are about two quarts low. Long before engine damage would occur.

Wow I have to say you are handling this better than I would. I always take keys and pull a few fuses when we go out of town for a few days and the Z stays behind. Don't trust the kid or even more, his friends.

Something sounds funny. Owner doesn't even know he has an LSA not a LS3.

I agree, something is not right here. I went back and read some of the OP's threads and comments. Seems to be a drama queen. On 1-7-2015 he said his dealer called and his new CTS-V was in, and now 3 weeks later his ZL1 is totally out of oil and his motor is shot. Says he has had 3 SRT's, had a G8 that was supercharged with a cam. His first ZL1 was bought back by the dealer. Just saying things are not adding up here.

You do know your car ,with it being a ZL1, and the CTS-V has an LSA motor not an LS3?

It took 39 posts for some one to mention warranty. No matter what the nephew did, the car shouldn't be out of oil with no signs of a leak unless the nephew drained it himself which is highly unlikely. Get over it, take it to the dealer ,have them fix it under warranty, and punch yourself in the face for not securing you car from use if you didn't want that. Oh, and maybe your sister too if she allowed her son to drive your car if she knew you didn't want that.

Edit: Maybe to harsh on the punching yourself and sister thing, but I'm sure you get what I'm driving at.
