Thoughts on Range AFM Disabler

So, I've done some research in regards to the issues many people have had with AFM on their vehicles. In my case, my SS Camaro has it, and I'd like to avoid lifter issues down the road.

A common response is to buy the Range AFM Disabler. I've seen mixed reviews on them, but most of those reviews are not for the Camaro. So, who has one and what are your thoughts on them?

I’ve had mine for almost a year now and no problems at all. Just make sure you get one with the most current firmware and you should be trouble free. Took it out the other day just to see if I could feel the difference...and I definitely could! I don’t think I’ll take it out again unless I’m taking my car in for service. On long trips where you are going long stretches at freeway speeds you might see a little mpg gains, but around town no change.

I had it disabled with my tune, but either way, shutting down AFM is nothing but good for your engine...

Thanks for the info. Seems like a no-brainer to snag a Range AFM disabler.

I have it. I love it. Get it now!

Order one with firmware = R8.6 (or later) or you may run down your battery if you leave it plugged in.

I've not seen any options on ordering them with specific firmware. Is there a way to update it after the fact?

I ordered off an eBay seller where the description said the firmware number. The best way is to order directly from Range Technologies because then you know you are getting the latest. I had to order from another source because Range Technologies cannot ship to California due to CARB regulations here. You could also order from Summit Racing. They should have the most updated firmware modules. Range Technologies will update the firmware if you send it to them. I think you just have to pay for the shipping.

I did a test with afm on and off just for gas milage sake. I drove a back to back test for 20 miles going exactly the same useing cruze control. same same so it is a valid test. gas milage IMPROVED in v8 mode only like 1.5 mpg. That is average small grades ect on 4 lane hwy at 70 mph. I was shocked to say the least. I guess the power to weight raito is such that it labors more in v4 up small grades i dont know, i do know the test is valid and repeated. It helped me to decide

I didn't think my 2016 SS had it, but after reading, I suppose it must. Since I'm going for a tune in the near future, think I'll save the $189 these modules cost and put that towards the tune and have it fixed then.

Bought a used one on Ebay.

You must have an A8 with stock exhaust. Otherwise you would know.

You might add A8 or M6 to your profile so we know.
