This happened on my IOM 2011 2SS. I made an appointment with Classic Chevrolet and took it in. 5 days later I got it back. I didn't want them to repaint the whole trunk, so they touched it up, wet sanded it back and polished it. They also put a spacer under the spoiler, however, it looks like it's happening all over again... :(

And now I have an oil leak too... :(

Mine had the exact same problem. My new spoiler completely covers it though so I'm not too worried about it.

I am taking mine in today along with this thread to show them if they balk at me. I plan to also have them re tint the entire car cause the tint job was not perfect either. they will give me a loaner car to drive so they can have it as long as it takes to make it perfect to my liking. I am obsessively picky and its my money making the monthly payments.

I am having the same problem with mine 2011 2LT. Took it to the dealer today, they say they have never seen it before. They are comtemplating submitting a service report to GM.

Just checked mine, had it for about 2 weeks+ now, no chips, wonder if it's caused by pushing on the spoiler when you shut the trunk? I did check the clearance and it looks very tight, as in putting pressure on the spoiler will cause it to rub the trunk deck.

I have it on both sides. Car was in for rail dust issue and they forgot about this. They are going to reclear coat my car sometime next week and they will solve this when they do it.

I think these are being caused by the same thing that caused the nuts to slip off. Vibration.

So making sure they stay tight would be a preventative option?

Thank you for the heads up - just went out with my cuppa coffee and inspected under Trigger's tail. No damage yet but today I stop and buy six spacers as suggested. Prevention is the best medicine!

Wow, guess I better check mine tonight. I was planning on picking up a dove tail spoiler next year.

I just fixed mine before it caused any chips. Glad I saw this thread.

The problem is the cheap rubber OE washers get crushed and the outer edges of the spoiler wind up too close to the trunk lid.

Before yours chips the trunk - take the spoiler off, scrape off whats left of the mashed up OE rubber washers. Get 6 new rubber washers from a hardware store.

Reinstall the spoiler with the new rubber washers. Use blue locktite on the nuts. Be careful not to drop the nuts in the trunk, I magnetized my socket and used a little piece of tape. When tightening the outer nuts be careful to watch the spoiler to trunk gap. Don't tighten it too much that it crushes the new rubber gasket. The nuts don't need to be too tight, just nice and snug, the locktite will keep them from loosening.

A couple bucks worth of hardware store rubber washers will save your trunk paint.

I had this too, on black. Also only above the SS, almost identical to the pics PQ posted of his. The trunk was repainted, spoiler/nut issue dealt with based on the bulletin put out by GM, and it has been good since. At least I think it has, haven't noticed anything further, but will do a doulbe take for sure.

Good luck!!!
