Aftermarket Sunroofs?
Hey guys! First time poster here. Last year I got my license and jokingly asked my parents for a camaro as my first car if I was to help pay for it. That joke turned into a reality, and now I happily own a 2010 ABM LS. Although I love the car, there are some things I wish it had. Such as a sunroof. I was looking at aftermarket ones such as the Webasto SolAire 5300. Some people were saying go for it while a lot were saying don't and just trade it for one with a sunroof. Well, trading for another ABM is next to impossible for me as mine is the only one I have seen anywhere near where I live, and haven't seen any on dealers' lots or anything. So my only option would be to stay without a sunroof or to get the aftermarket one professionally installed. But I was thinking, would it be possible to replace the roof with one that has a factory sunroof in it? I'm not sure if it's possible or how much it would be if it was possible, so that's why I'm posting here. Thanks in advance!

To do a roof swap I'd bet would be around $5k by the time everything is done then you run the chance it may not work properly. Find a well respected aftermarket installer and have them show you ones they've installed. Obviously there's always possible issues when performing ANY mod to a vehicle

IMO an aftermarket one will lower the value of your car. Better to add to the list for your next new car.

Yeah I figured. I don't plan on selling this one ever since it is my first car and reading on how rare the ABM is, so value isn't too much of an issue. I'd love to find an SS ABM near me with everything I'd want in it haha!

Why cut a hole in perfectly good roof? Don't do it.

I didn't think you could put a sunroof on a non sunroof car because of the headroom bubbles. If you replace the whole roof, that could get pricey!
I'd say just trade for one with a sunroof when you can and don't cut your car up. |

I personaly would NOT get an aftermarket sunroof. Heck, my SS has 1, and I wish that it didn't.

There was an Inalfa sunroof installed in my car before I bought it. It doesn't squeak or leak. If you really want one, go for it. Just make sure it's installed by a reputable dealer. It HAS to be installed right the first time.

I have always owned cars with sunroofs or convertibles, so in 14 I saw a a brand new at the time lifted Sierra sitting on the dealer lot I had to have it,but wait no sunroof. I called my buddy a manager at another dealer he told me he could hook me up and to get the truck. I did and a couple weeks later a sunroof place came to his dealership and put in a webasto sunroof. The roof is great never leaks looks almost factory and have not had a problem with it yet and trust me I use the heck out of it. It was 1200 for the roof and install but I got it for 900 so I was super pleased with everything.

I like the idea of finding a dealer that has a good rep and has done one in a Camaro before. Then see what options they offer.

I could be wrong, but I think I recall reading that there are some fundamental structural differences between the sunroof and non sunroof cars. I do know that there are some significant drainage differences.
Even if it's executed perfectly, the cost, risk, reward equation still says it's not worth it. IMO |
