Powder Coated Wheels
I thought I was looking to get our chrome wheels powder coated black but after talking to the guy today, he kind of scared me away by saying there's a somewhat decent change that the chrome would 'bubble' and end up looking terrible.
Has anyone powder coated their wheels and anyone know if this is something I should really be worried about? Or is a better option to just buy something new and sell the chrome ones? Currently plasti dipped and getting new tires so looking for a better option. Thanks, Steve |

Powder coat guy should lightly sandblast the wheels anyways, chrome should come right off... my factory wheels are powder coated and look great

"the guy" is an idiot. I have had many chrome rims powder coated. I just had a chrome motorcycle rim done last week from chrome to black.
Wrong forum btw. |

First off sandblasting will not remove chrome, however if your chrome is in good condition you can powder coat right over the chrome and you will have no issues, my powder coater does it al the time.

This.. Chrome isn't removed by sand blasting however IF the chrome is in good shape it will be fine. Any pitting or bubbling and its too late. The pitting and bubbling will continue under the powder coat and cause issues
