2014 L99 Camaro

Hey everyone!

i currently have a L99 camaro with just headers, CAI, TB spacers and tune. Nothing major. The future goal for the car is to stay N/A and get ported heads and cam down the road. Reason being to do the cam they have to pull the heads off so trying to save up more $$$ to knock both out at the same time.

I came across a few mods that i could possibly do before the heads/cam but i am on the fence about them. I hear good/bad things about both. Does anyone have any experience with either or?

1. Ported/Rod mod manifold from GPI (was told from GPI i will gain some on the dyno but it will really shine once the heads/cam is done)

2. Ported TB not much gains on this end but will help with throttle response and flow smother with ported/ rod mod manfiold.

3. Flex fuel e85, being told it would only shy with forced induction but i would still get some gains from it.

Any ideas?

All 3 of them won't give much of a gain until the motor is cammed. The ported TB will give you better throttle response, the rod mod will net very low due to restriction in the valve train from original cam, and boosted engines see the biggest gains from E85 but a cammed L99 can pick up respectable power from it.

My L99 is a monster but it was costly to do it.

Thank you so much! Looks like I’ll just save up more $$$ and get the cam/heads done. Again thank you!

OP, don't waste money on E85..doing a cam isn't gonna gain you more power with e85 UNLESS you are upping the compression too.

With that said, have you thought about 3.91s? That's an easy one. AND, if you have a rough ballpark of the cam you are gonna run you can get a converter NOW and enjoy it now. A converter is almost the best mod for an L99!!

Back to your other questions:

Look at the mods in my sig - the PTB gave me a bit more throttle response, but didn't notice much either than that.

The rod/port manifold to be 100% honest didn't really seem like it did much...BUT...I'm 100% sure it'll be worth it when I cam which is why I got it.

That’s what I was thinking also getting the converter now, would the gears make much of a difference?

I am running Kooks lt's with green cats, roto-fab cai, GPI ported throttle body & intake. GPI tune on 93. It really woke it up from stock. This winter I am going with GPI ported heads, SS2 vvt cam, converter & gears. Time to get the valves open farther. If you get more air in heads & a cam will get it out. It should be a handful of fun!

I love running E-85(consistent 65%) mainly for that sweet smell over smelly pump gas exhaust. Probably gives me a couple more ponies with my NA set up, 11.4's in the 1/4 and otherwise only 91 octane here around Kansas.

Do it.

I can tell you the one biggest regret I have is not having a convertor for my cammed build. Now it definitely has gobs more power than before the cam, but I am leaving a lot of my useable powerband on the table with the stock convertor.

I can't count how many times I have rolled against someone and thought to myself... 'That would have been much different if I had a 4k stall convertor'. It only takes a few days after the cam install to notice how badly it is needed.
