V6 Engine cover

So i decided to do my engine cover today and I went and got everything. im about to clean it before I start but that i realized that there is a heat shield underneath my cover. after i pull it off should i put it back on before reinstalling on engine or does it matter? if so im pretty sure i have to break the metal tabs to get it off how should i hold it in place again?
