No, the lifters are not the same. I'm getting LS7 lifters with my cam install.

PQ, the lifters on the rear two cylinders, both banks are different from the front cylinders. these are the cylinders that shut down to my knowledge, forgive me if I'm wrong.

A good set of hydraulic roller lifters will run you between three and four hundred based on my build...

If I do the conversion I will.

My thinking was flat head or roller. I knew they were hydraulic, but I didn't know if the L99s were different at all. I'm still not even sure I understand the AFM method anyway.

Was it the cam, lifters, or a combination of the two that were different on the shutdown cylinders?

Dual springs, lifters, and what else?

I believe it's a combination of the two, the cam profile and the lifter function.. When AFM is called for, there are some hydraulic functions that take place and I believe it partially opens the valves for the cylinders it needs to, and the injectors shut down for those cylinders as well. The partially open valves remove the compression resistance allowing the pistons in these cylinders to freely move.

When doing the LS-3 conversion, the lifters are all the same, the AFM is tuned out, and the cam has to change... There is a sticky on cam basics and it has some pictures that will explain it a little better. It will also describe the difference in the different lifters and cam profiles... Roller lifters FTW...

The only things different between the two are the 4 AFM lifters, and the cam has a smaller duration on the L99. You can keep the VVT but ditch the AFM lifters and use the LS-7 ones. There are several that are doing this for cam changes. Texas Speed and Mast are the top two that I know of. The Mast Track 3 set up is a prime example of this. They replace the AFM lifters and give you there heads, and VVT cam. There package is what Im leaning towards right now myself.

Thanks for the more concise information...

It's probably best to get rid of the AFM lifters whether you decide to keep VVT or not. If you keep them the cam lobes have to be "special" so they don't wear out the lifters. Larger VVT cams require that you change the lifters for this reason.

Here's a pick of the AFM lifter... notice there's a spring that goes on top of each one when installed.

unless it's for cooling the IATs
nitrous spraybar across the intercooler... or a 50 shot for big turbo cars

but then we wouldn't have all this entertainment going on, would we?
this is true. but what is entertaining for us is also somewhat of a hardship for PQ.

not quite. did you read my cam sticky? I believe I put some info about VVT cams and a whole thing on lifters in there

LS7 lifters or LSA lifters are FTW

Will they port the heads as well, or would I have to do that myself?

So the roller lifters obviously don't rotate like flat ones. I'm assuming it wouldn't be a problem? I mean, obviously not if they are making them, but just curious.

it just don't seem right only having power when you push a button. it makes it feel like more of a let-down when you're driving normally. going back to you're 'sock-in-the-pants' analogy, using nitrous as your main power-adder is like saying "there ain't nothing wrong with ED... so long as you have Viagra"

i'm all about spraying the intercooler

i really do feel bad that it is troublesome for him, but it does make for interesing conversation
