fuel additive/octane booster.
can anyone recommend a octane booster or additive that actually works? i know some that are out there claim 2-5 points, but actually only raise it say, from 93 to 93.5. they are a waiste of money. can be confusing. klotz is what i used when i raced sleds and it was an oxygen additive / octane booster. and worked well. someone in the know? thx dan

When I had my Corvette, I went to the gas station and told the attendant to fill it with 93. I go in the little store, come out and it's full with a $32 bill due. I figured this to be rather cheap. I checked the fill and he had filled it with 87. After cursing out the attending for 10 minutes, I went to the pepboys next door and got octane booster to try and bring it back up and it did the job for that tank of gas. No sputtering or issues.

They generally won't do much. Why are you trying to raise your octane? What mods do you have done?

I know it can, but I was getting ready to take an all highway trip for about 145 miles and didn't want to be chugging along in a Corvette

In short it keeps the car from pulling timing (losing power) rather than make power. |

So would this be a viable alternative for those of us in Cal with 91 octane?

Because of that, I'd use it only at the track. As it is, it would help prevent Knock Reduction. With a tune, lets you add a couple of degrees of timing. Padre |

I recommend staying away from octane boosters, they can cause O2 sensor problems and injector performance problems with long term use. I used some years back and my plugs were always a rust color from deposits. 92 or 93 is fine for most mods unless you are running high compression, high boost or 125 or higher dose of nitrous. If you need more octane you can always run unleaded race fuel or mix it with pump to get a higher octane. Julio |
