Congrats on the upgrade!! Also, don't let the manual guys hate on you for having an automatic. With a proper tune automatics are actually quite a bit of fun! Enjoy and happy modding!

I personally wanted the manual. I've daily driven one for the last 9 years now? It's a compromise that I decided to go for though. The manual cars that had everything that I wanted were just priced too high. This car had everything that I wanted minus the manual. I'm not too concerned though, once I get used to this car, I'll hook up my HPTuners and see what I can do. The paddle shifters seem pretty good right now, but I think they can be tweaked a little better. At least I can hold a gear if I wanted to.

Yeah that's how I've been thinking of doing the tune also.
Leave D pretty similar to stock just with increased line pressures. And then take the time to tune M to how I want it to be.

I had a 2012 1LS but was murdered on the freeway and totaled. I loved the IBM blue.
The hunt was on finding a replacement car. My insurance gave me 17,100 for it and went I guess it is time for a SS 1LE. Cargurs.com had 2 1LEs listing in the state or out 500 miles. I found a 2014 RED HOT 1SS 1LE with the CPO warranty with 21000 miles. A number of problems with the car but was taking care of by the selling dealer. A CPO car you really have them over a barrel to make it right. ( new NPP exhaust, battery, windshield blades) Now chevy is doing a air blend door in the AC ouch $2400 fix under warranty.
