Was the machine spinning the engine at that rpm?

lol...this allows developers a way to test valve train components before having to fire an engine up for the first time...

I have video to almost 9,000 rpm with combustion but the turbo's drown out the exhaust note. This is due to my full exhaust system....
I had numerous people at the last Mile event I ran at come up to me after and state they had never heard an LS that sounded like mine.... The response was that they had probably never heard an LS at 9,000 RPM.... I have a dyno pull to 8,300 or so, and we spun the tires on the dyno killing the pull.... It is awe inspiring.... Ask the Snap On guy trying to make a sale.... We told him to help us stand on the straps and made a pull.... trying to stop the tire spin... When the pull was done, he got off the straps with shaky knees and walked out of the shop (No comments, no looks).... We didn't see him until the following week...

If you go back and watch the entire video, they walk through the valve motion. They even have graphing of the cam profile vs. actual valve motion at a few cross sections of RPM. You can see that at 11,300 their valvetrain is still following the cam pretty well. At 11,500 the valve is starting to loft off the top of the lobe (inertia is pulling it further than the cam will carry it) which causes some nasty instability which continues to worsen as the revs climb - that extra inertia is overwhelming the spring, so your opening is out of control, and then your closing will also be out of control as the valve is closing much harder and faster, bouncing off the seat, etc. Watch the video from 3:50 on and you'll get a real nice education on valvetrain stability. The fact that it's occurring at 11k+ rpm is amazing!

Wow, a LS7 @ 11,500 RPM! Would like to see that dyno..I would like to see the calculations and the velocity the valve train is moving at when approaching speeds like that. Cheers to GM for the strength of the LS engine.
Frank, since you are stalking LS7 engines on Facebook is it safe to assume there will be an LS7 swap in your future

Hell Yeah..... I would've to hear one at 9,500 rpm.... I imagine it would sound like a WWII dive bomber in full tilt....

That's is pretty cool, lots of forces at play. But it won't ever spin that fast under load. Too much reciprocating weight. Hell, sport bike engines like Ninja 650 etc spin about that fast and they are much lighter and stronger than that. What's really crazy is the sound my ZX6R makes at full tilt. 16k rpm and feels/sounds like a F1 car haha. 8k comes along and secondary injectors come online....... Holy sh*t! Haha
