In his picture, you can CLEARLY see that his springs aren't completely collapsed. The top ones MIGHT be touching but as Pfadt stated, they are designed to do that. The problem is, the picture is taken from below so you can't see if there's a small gap between some of the upper ones. The lower ones have quite a bit of gap between them. As Pfadt stated, they are all designed to do this to some degree. If your Hotchkis are 1in drop's then they may have a little more gap in them but the top ones should be collapsed more than the bottom ones.

Hotchkis do have different spacing between the coils, but none are resting on eachother or even close. Different design. Steve said all are resting on on each other as they are supposed to per Pfadt except the one you see at the bottom, and that one coil only. Said he has no travel or little at all. Feels the slightest dip at the slowest speed, like in a parking lot at a mall, with a bang as if bottomed out, so maybe do to the shocks gone. I dont know more so wont guess at it.

My guess is the same as yours, that the strut is going out.

Well, it looked like the springs were the issue, but appears that has been resolved with some Red....
