That's crazy.
Shipping over seas sounds like a pretty good prediction. I was in a Nissan dealership not long ago and there was a new GT-R being prepped. The dealer told me the guy buys them, then ships them to Germany, Finland, anywhere somebody will buy them. The only difference being that one guy does it legitimately, these guys do it illegally.

It cracks me up so many of you think this had to be an inside job. These people are PROS! Nothing on the car is proprietary or can't be figured out. In some cases professional car thieves bring a modified ecu/bcu for the car their going to steal. That's right, they get in and replace the module(s) with one that bypasses all the security measures.
Is it a real mystery how to disable OnStar??? I could permanently disable mine tomorrow if I wanted to. I'm willing to bet these guys just jammed the signal... Again, these are pro's who'll probably make 50K or 60K per car. Do you really think they won't invest a few thousand dollars in satellite jammers/ transponder programmers/ ecu's/bcu's or whatever else they need to get the job done? Wanna know where the dealer keeps the keys? Go into the dealer and ask to test drive one of the cars and watch where he goes to get the key. Pretty simple really... Auto security has gone high tech, but there's nothing that can't be figured out and worked around. It's why the manufacturers are always having to come with newer and more sophisticated methods, which only works until someone figures a way around it. You'd be surprised how quickly these guys can get around the most sophisticate security measures these days. A system is only as good as the weakest link, and there's always a weak link... Amateurs don't try and make off with 5 cars at once from a dealer. This was a professional team, probably connected with organized crime. Would you think it was an inside job if only 1 car was stolen? This lot had 5, so they brought enough guys to get all 5 at the same time. They probably could have all pulled out together... There's absolutely nothing here that would require a guy on the inside; nothing... Does that mean they didn't have someone on the inside? Of course not; just that it wouldn't require someone on the inside... |

Then why was the ZL1 abandoned at a hospital parking lot then? If the perps wanted to draw attention away with a cold trail, could have been a lesser car than the ZL1. And how did the bumper get damaged? Wonder if the person driving the car needed medical services for some reason?.....

I'm betting Vin Diesel and his gang of Fast and Fruity 4 cylinder Racer X wannabees finally decided to trade up.
First thing they probably did was hang a small garden gnome off the back of the rear bumper. |

GM probably doesn't care. The dealer is the one losing the money...

It would have been very easy for these guys to sneak out of the parking lot without being noticed. The dealership is on a very busy stretch of road but theres a rarely used back road that connects to the lot. It's pretty much only used by the car lots in that area. That road leads to many different exits. They really should have these lots fenced off. It would slow them down a little.
