Intake manifold & tb upgrade for Twin Turbo setup worth it?
For the gurus and those with direct experience:
The Context: My setup is AGP TT w/58/62 Turbos and we are swapping the stock LSA shortblock for a fully built LME motor early next month. The current motor has very nice heads and a BTR Stage III PD cam which we may swap for a Turbo Cam. Power goals are 1050-1100 rwhp reliable. The Question: Is there any value in upgrading my stock LS3 and LSA Intake/TB to something else in this process or at a later time? Target is to make 1100 wheel reliably, made 920 @ 17psi so that shouldn't be an issue but just wondering if there are any reasonable gains moving from the stock LS3/TB combo to something like say an LSXR, LSXRT or sheet metal intake with a setup like mine. Most EVERYTHING I've read and researched says the LS3/Stock TB approach for anything under 1400 wheel is ideal but I'd love to confirm this with those who know and hopefully substantiated with dyno tests. Thanks!

Unless you want to spend $3k+ on a PMC/etc intake, for little if any gains, there is no point. Stock intakes/tbs are good for 1500+. If you have money to burn go for it, but from a performance stand point, almost a complete waste of money.
Fast intakes don't hold up to boost, and are a downgrade over stock.

My buddy made 886rwhp with twin turbos with the stock intake manifold. The stock flows perfectly well.
Save the money for something else.

Sakudog you have a sick build man!
I know your on Fore pumps and Flex Fuel but can't remember if you did a Meth kit? If not Alky Control would be worth the money & after that maybe a 15 inch wheel set up? Can't wait to see this thing finished! |

Thanks! Yes have Alky Control Meth system. As far as a tire I have an 18" ZL1 replica wheel with M&H Racemasters but I might need more tire. TBD!

I think Sam has done a few of these tests with a NW102 and found almost 0 gain. You gonna bring your car to TX2K or any events coming up?

TX2K is a maybe because my LME shortblock has to go in before that date and we'd be cutting it very close. The stock rods are like...srsly brah @ 17psi so don't want to buy all that could break if I bend/break a rod making 1100 @ 20psi cause I "wanna go fast".

Stock TB and intake clearly have the airflow capability to support huge power when boosted. But any liquids (meth) injected before the TB don't distribute worth a darn. We're going to do a back to back test on one of our high power cars soon, stock intake vs. carb style w/ elbow. We already know most the meth is going to be back cylinders, but what improvements we can make are yet to be seen. 10.8:1 LSX417

Or use that magic I use.
I actually looked at doing a MSD intake, but $1500 is hard to swallow when my setup works so well. At least $1500 is less than $2800, but leaning towards just saving up and doing the PMC, even though I bet the MSD would sell easy if I used it for awhile.
