Factory Wheel Tire Replacement Thread

Hey guys,

Now that enough zl1's have been out long enough, I think its time to talk about what tires everyone is replacing with. I have been extremely pleased with the supercar 3's that come stock.

My review:
Tires have now lasted about 9000 hard miles before reaching the wear bars.
Break in: about 1000 miles of no traction. Right around then, the tires got very sticky for about 7000 miles. At about 8000 miles, the sticky part of the compound has seemed to disappear. Overall Im extremely pleased with the lifetime, performance and low road noise.

So, now that I am at the replacement point, I was just going to order the same tires and keep stock. But I started thinking of experimenting with my first set of replacements.

Sizes ive seen used for stock wheels:

285 30 20 front

305 30 20 rear
315 30 20 rear

Any others?

Different tires:
Toyo r888
Toyo r888r
Nitto nt01
Nitto nt05
Michelin Pilot supersports

Anybody with experience on all these on the zl1 care to chime in and give a review? I don't want to experience a negative change in dynamics by experimenting with tires so Im hoping others can give some details and reviews on any other tire options.

I wouldn't put pilot SS in the same league as the factory goodyears. Good tire? Absolutely. But with this much power the sport cup 2 is what I would look at to replace the goodyears.

I need to replace mine as we speak. 17 ZL1 M6, 4200 miles. The back tires are a little worst than the fronts and are getting close to the indicator marks. Anyone tried the MSP4S? This is there new tire that is supposed to be good combination of grip and wear.

Again, excellent tire. But cannot be compared to the stock goodyears or pilot sport cup 2's. The 4S is just an updated pilot supersport so to speak. On a bone stock camaro I would rock them all day long. But with the HP and TQ these have stock I think the car would be severely "under tired" with those on.

I failed to mention I am currently 706RWHP, so traction is very important and the stock GY's aren't cutting it anymore.

The CTS-V has almost identical HP and trq, an has pilot super sports as OEM tires.

I honestly never liked the stock tires, when I replaced my stock wheels I went with NT01s. Quieter than stock, but stickier than hell. Be prepared for all kinds of rocks and sand getting caught up and thrown.

I'm personally going with the Pilot 4S when the GY wear out. They are a significant upgrade over the PSS and incorporate some of the technology of the Cup 2's. The GY are between the PSS and Cup 2 if you are talking about relative performance. The new GY's on the ZL1 1LE are in the same category as the Cup 2's.

I searched and could not find the Nitto NT01 in 305/30/20?

Just pulled the trigger on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, installed and balanced for $1500 ... will comment on ride quality after the install. the reviews on the 4S, regarding wet traction, dry traction, AND ride quality are universally positive and over the top.

And it blows them off with traction control on. I’ve driven 3 of them, all bone stock.

OP states he running with 706 whp, really there isnt any street tire thats going to hold up to that power. Even with the stock 650 at the crank, you'll blow off all the street tires.
