Another oil thread...0w-40 Dexos 2 for street & track?

O.K...yawn, another oil thread. On Corvetteforum, the Z06 guys are spouting the new standard is Mobil 1 0w-40 ESP (Dexos 2) for the LT4 and the factory fill. Do ZL1s follow with this logic or does the dry sump of the Z06 make the oil choice solely for the Vette crowd? I will continue with the Valvoline 5w40 MST Dexos 2 but will switch if anyone knows. Thanks.

I know this isn't what you asked but for information purposes only I figured I'd share. After all the oil vids/discussions that came out I switched to Amsoil 5W50 due to it being the only oil certified to not cause the carbon buildup that makes are cars blow smoke when at WOT due to our GDI. Mine used to blow out the smoke after minimal miles using the 5w30 Mobil that came from the factory, it now no longer does and truly runs much smoother.

Thanks for the information. I will stick with Valvoline MST 5w-40 for the simple reason it was readily available at the local NAPA on sale for 5.79qt.

I had the service dept. at my dealership call GM service tech for clarification and there has been no change to the manual (track events and competitive driving section still applies) according to them.... so 0W-40, etc. is recommended for TRACK EVENTS/COMPETITIVE DRIVING ONLY! Not street use.

Uh, the GM document above contradicts what was "told" to the service tech. I will take a document over service tech BS.

Running the 40 weight on the street will not hurt a thing, perhaps a tad less miles per gallon but I doubt you would notice the difference.

Doesn't that just refer to availability of the 0W-40?
Sure would like to get a definitive, reliable answer/decision on this.....

I read this on the Corvette forum too. The new recommended oil will be the 0W40 ESP.

It states "the recommended oil is..." That is definitive IMHO.
