To Any who care

most of you criticized my decision on getting a camaro so soon Just like the texas guy we have here. I have however edited the terms. My mom signed a contract stating that if i get into a CalState/UC straight from high school i get a camaro with a value up to 28gs. This way ill almost be 18 be more responsible of a driver, etc. Do you guys think this is a better situation?

Having a few years of driving experience before getting a 300+ HP car certainly isn't a bad thing.

I'm not going to criticize you for wanting a nice car...every teen has had that dream.

So, I'm cool with that.

The simple fact is that the PERSON decides the cars fate. Some teens are so damn nit picky that they KNOW the value of a dollar and how to treat things.

Other teens have NO CLUE...and are brain dead...taking mom and dad for granted and have to learn their lesson.

Who am I to say who you are? Who are any of us to say who you are? Only you can decide if you are ready to accept the responsibility of owning and KEEPING/MAINTAINING a new car. I blew the engine in my 77 Chevy Caprice Classic after many, many times taking it MUDDING. I raced that car...I ran it into the ground. No respect for that car. My buddy had a brand new Amigo. What happened? We jumped it 30 or so times climbing a hill and getting about 5 feet off the ground. He ruined that car.

Too many of my friends ruined their first cars. It was just the way it was. Some kids took care of them...most could have cared less. I applaud you if you are able to get a new Camaro. It's also nice to have parents who can afford something like that. What's even better are the kids who can take care of them.

Just because of past experiences, I would say to hold off till getting a new car (like college). If you can do that, YOU will appreciate it that much more. If you want to get it now, no one here will stop you and no one here should tell you not to. If you wreck it, that's all you. If you treat it like crap, that's all you. If you fail to follow the maintenance schedule, that's all you.

And if you don't respect it's power, you could easily kill yourself and your passengers.

I am positive that if you do get one soon and if you want to take care of it, you will. It's really that easy.

Best wishes on your decision. I hope you do get a Camaro...and I hope you baby it for years to come.

Truthfully, I don't want to tell you not to get a new Camaro, but...! One thing to try is to get the 28k, put it safely away for awhile (even if it's in a series of low intrest six month CD's). Get a reliable used car while you're in school, and when you get out you'll have that 28k + to make a play with.

I can tell you from my own experience that i don't think there are very many younger people who should start out with high horsepower cars. For one thing, you'll never want to move down in power or performance. Each car you buy will always have to be stronger than your last one. Depending on your individual situation, that might lead to some frustration as you get older. BUT, the real reason to start low and move up has to do directly with the amount of driving experience (or lack thereof) that a younger person has.

What I found out about myself (and I'm sure most guys on this site were / are the same way) is that I HAD TO KNOW what my car's performance envelope was. My dad was smart, he made me start with a good, but not very powerfull car. I pushed it...I had to know what I could do and what I couldn't do!!! I never have had any wrecks, thank God, (good Guardian Angel) but I have had some situations occur that really could have went sour. I learned from them and it's made me a better driver, but if I was running alot more power...?!?!?!

Gaining experience in cars takes time. Not just learning about yourself, but about the other drivers sharing the road with you. In fact, I'm almost to the point where I truly believe that the majority of the people I encounter every day on the road are either intoxicated on alcohol, drugs, or perscription medication. Or they simply don't know the laws, like the HUGE illegal alien population here in California. Sitll there are others who simply don't concentrate on the act of driving!

I'll toss this out there too. Before I ever started driving I looked at cars as nothing more than transportation...to get from point A to point B. Not long after I got behind the wheel, I learned how much fun it was to drive! And I pushed the envelope even though I never thought I'd ever be that kind of driver. Even to this day, I still like to find the edge and run it there! The difference is the experience I now have prevents me from risking myself or others in situations that when I was younger, I wouldn't have thought twice about it!

Enjoy being young, but respect your youth! This whole notion of experience I'm talking about won't be clear to you for several years. But one day it'll click, and you'll remember reading this.

NOW THAT WE HAVE THAT ESTABLISHED, tell us exactly which version of your new 2010 Camaro you're GONNA get...color, options, etc.! Have fun and good luck. Vrrroooooommmmmm!!!

Who really cares what all of us think. Noone knows if you'll be responsible for the car or not, possibly saving your life and other lives. I hope it all works out well for you and you get into the college of your choice and get the Camaro. I'd say that's a good twofer.

Also are you going to live on campus? Check into it and see if the let freshman have cars. I know alot of colleges have parking problems and do not give freshman parking permits.

Hate to have to have a Camaro sitting in a non safe area.

Go right now and give your Mom a big hug and a kiss and tell her you love her.

Why you ask....... because if you where my kid I sure the heck would not be buying you a 28K car with 300 HP's at age 18

Honestly, we really do care! If we didn't we wouldn't spend the time to post anything. I really love this Camaro5 website because it allows all of us who share a passion for this car to come together and stand united.

I'm going with a Black 1SS/RS Automatic, with the Boston Acoustics Stereo, and the Polished Wheels. It looks like you're getting pretty much the same thing, but in the Direct 6 version? I wrote on the other thread you started about options, some suggestions. REALLY consider the polished wheel option on the RS package. I was all set to go with the painted Midnight Silver wheels, until I got a good look at those polished wheels...I switched!!! The window tinting is also something you'll like. Get the darkest (5%) for the back and little side windows. For your two big side windows, you need to have a talk with the tint specialists. For those two windows I'd really suggest not going very dark, or just leaving 'em factory. I forgot what the legal limit is for those two, but don't exceed it. The cops won't mess with you that way, and more importantly, it won't effect your vision for those critical glances left and right, that could potentially be problematic in certain lighting conditions. (Be sure to take your favorite sunglasses with you when you look at samples of the window tinting. Sometimes they're not compatible.) Good luck to you and your new Camaro buddy!!!!!!!!
