Camaro Trailer Hitch Upgrade Thread:

Ok so back in October last year, there was talk about the possibility of Camaro coming with a trailer hitch upgrade kit (aftermarket). Today I would like to re-open that discussion to possibilities of this kit still happening.

Ok, so from what I understand, the Camaro got rated 1000lbs towing capacity which is enough to tow a light single axle trailer along with a fair cargo load (a quad or small inflatable boat along with a few coolers, a water cantene and some firewood).

This sounds soo horrible to be even pushing this discussion but the fact for me is, I take LONG road trips every summer and I have a 2-piece 12' Zodiac boat which fits nicely in a 7' trailer. Add in some coolers for food and drinks, some firewood and a couple jugs of fresh water and you got everything you need to travel the Kelowna~Osoyos strip in B.C without breaking your bank of having to take the truck. I live 12 hours away from Penticton which is where I go every year so I'd rather take the new Camaro down rather than the Dodge Ram if possible.

What I'd haul in the trailer would be within the 1000lbs specifications which is what gets me excited. The Zodiac boat is very nice, it takes very little room as it folds into two large vinyl cases.

Has anyone heard anything about the hitches lately? I've been speaking to several mechanics and dealerships and the possibility of a hidden hitch is also possible if all else fails. Another issue you will have is wiring which would come directly off your car's taillights through the trunk.

I plan on doing something about this as I will attempt to mount a hitch preferbly a hidden one. I call the hidden ones a banana hitch as they can wrap around the bumper and when removed leave no trace of a hitch when not needed.

I will post more information here when I can get a little more time to research it. The trailer I'm interested in can be found at a local home depot (see below). I did include a Vette below which also has a trailer attached to it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !

You put the trailer on the truck then put the Camaro on the trailer. That is the only way I have towing and Camaro together.

Sorry, just have to give you a hard time on this.

Wow...I never thought I'd say this...but I REALLY like the look of the white raised lettering on the tires of that Camaro! I don't think it would look good on any color other than black...but that looks pretty sharp! (Especially with the blacked out rims)

The hefty, ballsy, strong-braking Camaro should be safe for towing a lot more than 1000 pounds. Is it really rated only for 1000? It's got enough weight and enough footprint to handle more weight safely, enough brake to stop more weight, and surely a tough enough transmission for the job.

I was thinking about it too. I was thinking maybe I could afford a Camaro if I sell my truck and get a hitch so I can drag some firewood / my little boat / some lumber / my trash to the dump...I'd have to give up my camper, though.

I never want to see a CAMARO with a trailer hitch let alone an actual trailer!

Also, those tires do look slick!!

It would be nice if some company made an easily detachable one that didn't require cutting the exterior bumper, but I'd be asking way too much. I would need a hitch to take my bikes to group rides and what not. I don't think I can get one in the trunk with out serious disassembly, let alone 2-4 depending on who's coming.
Here's a small gathering of some of them.

As you can see they are all much bigger than the trunk liner(let alone the minuscule port hole) .
I don't think I could ever use a trunk mounted carrier on my new Camaro.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing an available tow setup for the Camaro - Like the G8 GT
