Timing chain failure
Been hearing the 3.6 has some timing chain issues, to someone who uses their 3.6 as a daily this is highly alarming. Coming up on 100k miles is it worth replacing my chain kit?
are there any preventative maitenence to take to insure my chain doesn't fail? |

From what I have read on here only the llt 2010 - 2011 camaro had the issues and were fixed by using a different chain in the lfx 2012 and up.

New engines aren't as cheap as a timing chain kit. But it is only an LLT issue.

You could replace it and it could still break. Or something else go boom.

I’m kinda in the same boat as OP, except I have a 2011 LS with 51,000 miles on it throwing the P0008 code. Bought the car used in October 2018... and I do not drive it everyday. Am I screwed? Going in the shop Monday wish me luck

No, you're not screwed. If it is the chain, just change it and you will be good.

After a lot of research i found GM did give the '12 Camaro LFX motors the upgraded chains but continued to use the original chains on other models like the Traverse into '15. What a bunch of rat bastards.

Unless the chains were upgraded twice the original change was for the 2011 model year .
