Cooling/Plumbing Mods and Questions

I moved to SWFL this summer and bought a 2013 ZL1 Convertible A6. I have loved the car, and now I’m ready to start some tasteful modifications.

In the next year I will send the supercharger to Kong Performance for porting, rebuild, solid isolator, and pulley swap. I’m thinking 3.86 ratio. I have a set of ARH 1-7/8 headers in the garage and a set of catless mid pipes coming. ID 1050 injectors and a NW 103 tb with Roto fab cai round out my planned mods.

Cooling mods are a necessity living down here, besides the extra heat from the modifications. I’m thinking of the Weapon X HX with fans, bmr supercharger tank, and pierburg cwa400 pump, 160 degree stat, with a welded brick.

My car is 99% street driven, but spirited when possible.

Should I upgrade plumbing to 12-AN and add a spacer to the supercharger? Would there be an issue doing the cooling mods with cai before tuning? I know a full tune will be required when I pull the blower and do the rest of the mods. Fortunately, Tampa is an hour and a half away.

I have the afco HX with fans. I’m sure the weapon x one is good also. The cwa400 is over kill unless your doing a ice box in the trunk. The zl1 pump is a good pump. A good replacement pump is the cwa100 flows good. Look at the dedicated motor sports Reservoir 2 gallon talk with 12an fittings.

I looked hard at the Afco. Grew up with my dad racing circle track, so always liked/used the brand. Ultimately, upgrading all the plumbing to 12-An and a bit of a price break makes me lean weapon x.

Thanks!

I like your build! Very similar to my intentions. How close are you to maxing the 850 injectors? I was worried about being on the edge. Hence the 1050s in my OP.

Not even close to maxing out the 850’s but i spray 1450cc of methanol on full boost. 1050 are a good start. If i ran E85 they would be way too small

Once I send the blower out to be ported and get a tune and data, we’ll see if meth or e85 is warranted. I eyeballed a spacer from weapon x. Just didn’t think I was there yet.

I’ve got ported blower and heads but running e-85 so I’ve got fore triple l4 system w-ID1300’s - running afco hx w/ fans aswell as an 6 gal ice trunk tank with emp pump ..

If I recall I’m only running 40-50% duty cycle at wot .

E85 works really well on a ZL1 with a good fuel pump or DSX aux pump, sensor and the ID1050X injectors you should pick up 40-90HP depending on your other modifications and help cool the intake charge.. The ID1050X should support about 800WHP on E85 but you will be maxed out-running a kittle lower content and you would be fine.

What is the reason or advantage of AN plumbing for the intercooler? Low pressure coolant.
What am I missing?

No advantage to an vs push lock. Advantage is going with a bigger diameter hose. Stock hose is 5/8” i just re-plumbed mine in 3/4” push lock hose. Bigger hose less restriction to flow.

Exactly. Though when I read, AN is worth about 10% extra flow over rubber.

The AN is just the fitting. Still going to have all rubber lines. If you actually look at a 12an hose fitting the inside diameter is still 5/8” that’s why i went with 3/4” push lock fittings instead.

Not necessarily. I’m upgrading all the fittings and lines to 12AN, which is .69”. One of the reasons for going track attack hx, you can order with several fitting configurations.

Thus far my bottleneck appears to be the brick itself. I will have it welded. I haven’t read of a true upgrade for that thus far.
