Why are ZL1 manifolds and cats so expensive?
Did a search but could find an answer. Looked at approximate prices through GM Parts Online.
LS3 1 Manifold: $190 1 cat pipe: $550 LSA 1 manifold: $550 1 catalytic pipe: $850 I imagine that the ZL1 uses different material to withstand LSA temperatures but is there also something different inside the catalytic pipe? |

It’s a ZL1. Same goes for buying Z28 parts or Corvette parts...

Agree … with our Corvettes, we call it the 'Corvette tax', same holds true for the ZL1 & Z28.

Not sure about the cats, but SS exhaust manifolds are cast iron and the ZL1 manifolds are steel.

Not sure about the manifolds, but I'd imagine the cats are more expensive because they can withstand added torture from boost.

Be glad it's not a boat or airplane. Marine and Aviation "tax" is worse!

Sounds like a combo, tax because why not and likely some different internal design to withstand increased pressure.

You can always go with Solo cats, I've been running them for years and hold up fine at 625hp so stock will be no issues.

I bought a set, really for the manifold but wondering if I should use the cats as well?
Will keep stock ones if the internals are the same. |
