Leaking fittings... Help! - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

These two fittings started to leak after I put the radiator back in. I did unthread them and put them back in. The coolant was coming out of the bottom of the fitting not the line itself. I dug into it today and found out that they were transmission lines.... thats why I thought I'd jump on here and ask. Does these two fittings need to be replaced or is it something else?

Looks like the big washer at rad end of hose is not sealing properly, or the o ring inside trans cooler line has failed (Common GM thing, not sure if it’s common in Camaros). Those trans cooler lines are relatively cheap from GM/ACDELCO ($30 or so each). Prob easiest to buy new lines and try retapping the threads in radiator too if you take apart again. Hopefully threads in rad are salvageable.

You removed the wrong thing. Those fittings were not made to be removed unless you are rebuilding the radiator. Now that you removed them the seal is leaking around the fitting. The proper way to remove those trans lines is to use the proper tool that releases the the retaining clips inside the fittings. Then the lines pull out of the fittings. Most likely you will need to repace the rad to stop the leak, you can try tightening the fittings some more but like I said above you disturbed the seals inside.

At the time I couldn't pull out the quick connection. I now know that I just didn't pull hard enough. Rookie move... gm doesn't sell them individually. So i may be going to an aftermarket set-up. Oem was about 800 from gm.

Its leaking coolant, no transmission fluid.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner but I don't think a separate trans cooler will fix a coolant leak. It might make it possible to plug off the radiator holes so they don't leak though.
