Anybody changed their own yet?

How hard is the filter to get to?

What all do I need to get the plug out?

What filter is on there so I know what to get at the store?

Any other suggestions?

I have not done one on my own yet , put from what I have observered it looks easy enough to do so i'll give it a try next time I'm due for one..

Here's some info. that might help you with how much oil and what filter you will need :

Owners Manual section 11-2
Engine Oil w/ Filter

3.6L V6 Engine : 6-qts
6.2L V8 Engine : 8-qts
(L99 & LS3)

V6 : SAE 5w-30 GM6094M
Do Not use 10w-40,20w-50 or any other viscosity grade oil not recommended

V8 : SAE 5w-30 / GM4718M (L99 & LS3) Mobil 1 is Factory fill ..
Do Not use 10w-40,20w-50 or any other viscosity grade oil not recommended

GM#12593333 ( PF459G )
AC Delco Filter for the V6L # PF459G / **PF2129
**this part # is easier to find at most Auto Parts Stores ..

Wix / Napa Gold : #57090 / #7090 @ $ 7.69

If you are Military / Veteran always ask your local Auto Parts Store for the discount ! !

(Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts @ around $5.10 ea.)

Left one is Wix/Napa #57090 , 7090 / Right one is AC DELCO #PF2129

For V-6 the oil plug is 15mm I think. I changed my oil yesterday, Mobil 1 5W30. The oil change sure is easy with the top mounted oil filter! I just raised the front end off the ground with service jack, wheel chocks behind rear tires, and 4 point jack stands. I had to lift front wheels off of the ground, so I decided to clean the rear inside of front rims by spinning the wheels by hand while using a clean rag to remove dirt.

I have done it, for the v8 the oil plug is also 15mm and it does take 8 qts. Its not any harder than any other vehicle. Actually i found it easier, because the oil filter is about 4 inches behind the drain plug on the very bottom. Makes it very simple.

When you say service jack, do you mean floor jack that can go under the engine (crossmember if there is one). I have not looked under mine yet (2LT) and was wondering if a floor jack can be used to jack the whole front end up at the same time?

Also what size wrench for the top mounted oil filter? Thanks in advance for the info.

The picture looks like it's a plain filter and not a cartridge. I already ordered 2 of these :(

Ok, I was worried since the pictures in this thread show a filter with no casing...I obviously don't have my car yet but I'm all setup to do the first oil change since she'll have over 500 miles by the time I get her home!

my car doesn't come with a jack...can I use my wife's from her G35? I may just buy some ramps.

oh...how does resetting the "oil remaining" computer? I've read others have had issues...

first post! I thought this was important though.

DO NOT use the car jack that comes with a car. That is for an emergency tire swap while you are on the outside of your car. It is extremely dangerous to be under a car that is supported using one of these. Go buy yourself a nice floor jack or some ramps and block the back wheels!

I haven't seen the Camaro's but newer V6 Engines have a filter on the top. You unsrew a large cap, pull out the old one and drop in the new one, close cap and you are done. Based on the previous replies, the V8 is underneath near the drain plug so that one would have a casing.
