It is very easy to make. Just drill a 1/4 hole in the strap and use one 8m nut, bolt and that's it.

riv-nut tool
this is the one I made and used.. my strap was left over from a garage door motor that attaches the door to the chain. 3/16" thick by 14" long the hole in the end was already drilled out and the 8mm bolt fit perfect..
used vise grips to hold the bolt head and the strap with one hand and turn the nut with the other hand. Last edited by JD-ZL1; 11-14-2014 at 10:09 AM. |

I bought the DJ Grilles wickerbill for the ZL1, their rivnut install tool was simply a bolt with two nuts on them and it worked like a charm.

Ok, so I have a question. I drilled the holes, and the riv nut just slides in. How much force does it take to get it to actually pop in that hole and be secure? Should that riv nut just slide right in after the drilling? I used the 35/64 as it called for.
Tightening the nut on the tool will actually spread it out? It almost seems like the hole is too big. Help please.
