I have a question about 4th gen trans am
I am considering looking for a 4th generation trans am with the WS6 ram air. I have seen it advertised with 345hp and 325hp. What is the actual stock horsepower for the 1999 thru 2002 models? I am not very well educated on 4th generation F bodies. I really like the 1999 TA with the white leather interior and blue stripes and the yellow 2002 collectors edition. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

1999-2002 WS6 Trans Ams were all rated at 335hp... Firehawks were rated at 345hp
1999 30th Anniversary TAs were the only LS1 generation TAs to have the blue and white color scheme 2002 Collector's Edition models were supposed to be "Firebirds" but were actually Trans Ams because you couldn't get that color/option on anything but the WS6 package cars 1998-2000 models had an o-ring problem with the oil pump that would frequenty cause the engine to blow because of low oil pressure... this was fixed in late 2000... the 2001-2002 model LS1 cars all got the LS6 intake and a slight hp bump from the 1998-2000 models

Thanks a lot for the info SilverTurtle. It sounds like the best car to look for would be the 2002 collector's Edition. I had no idea about the O-ring problem. I really appreciate the response.

the CETAs were good cars, but I never could get past the fact that they are yellow... with black wheels... some people love that color scheme... me, not so much... lol but they were badass cars... and the rear bumper section with the black inset has become known as the CETA mod on cars of different colors

I actually like the 99 White with blue stripes and blue wheels better but the O-ring problem really turns me off. I do like the CETA almost as much. I just wish the yellow were a little more like the yellow on the new camaro. It's a little dull for me. Part of me wants to wait and buy a new camaro but I have seen these Trans Ams for half the price of a new camaro and I really love a car with T-tops. So I am kinda torn still between the two. I am going to be patient and really evaluate what I can afford and what works best for me and my situation. Again, thanks for your help.

I wouldn't be to scared of the O-ring problem. To state they 'frequently cause the engine to blow' is way overstating it. It's a 99 LS1 motor, as dependable as the rest. There are many thousands out there that have had no problems.
A few have had problems, most of the time the seal leaks before catastrophic failure. And it can be corrected for about $150 in parts. (besides you'll wanna put that lumpy cam in any won't ya)

LOL!! Thats a good point you have there. Plus I am the type of driver who watches my gages carefully. I would notice a drop in oil pressure.
