Covers parts and labor up to the sum of $8569.79. My cost was 100 bucks.
same here, bought mine used at 90k and motor had been replaced at 70k by original owner...lucky me...

The reason I feel GM should offer me *some* sort of help is there seems to be a number of these yellow valve springs breaking, there are quite a number of posts about it on different website forums. This appears to be a known issue and GM has changed them out in newer version of the LS3.
"Quite a number of posts about it on different website forums"

Most of what you are reading is total garbage. There are literally tens of millions of GM LS Valve Springs out there running with no issues. You read a few posts about A broken spring and it is Not a known issue or epidemic. You happen to have one that broke.

Exact same thing happened to my car at 55k miles. Valvespring failed, thankfully still under warranty, they rebuilt the drivers side head and replaced the headgasket. If I had to pay for it IIRC would have cost like $5k for the dealer to do.

After is was all fixed, I would take those pictures back to the dealer and question him why the recommendation of replacement of a whole new engine for $7k when "this" is all that was broken. Especially after the looked at it. kindly remind him that you won't be trusting his shop anymore for car concerns or repairs.

So how do you prevent this from happening?

Other than swapping out all your valvesprings with HP ones before it happens, nothing. When the dealer did mine they said they had never seen one fail before. And while this has happened now to a couple of us, its likely just a freak thing.

Thankfully mine happened 5k miles before the warranty expired!

Just had this happen to me. I have a 2011 Convertible with 42,500 miles. literally turned the corner and felt the loss of power and clanking. I had it towed to a dealer. They said it was a valve spring and I was lucky it didn't drop. the repair is $425.00. Tech says the the cylinder tested at 9% leakage which was acceptable. Picking up the car later today. It was also stated that the Spring was a different color meaning a redesign of the part. Not sure what to think of that. although I am feeling pretty lucky after reading some of the other stories.
