Question Fogged Windows

I have a 2011 Camaro 2LT RS. Under certain circumstances, I am getting condensation on the windshield in the middle at the bottom.

I tend to have A/C on, and air blowing at me, or at me and the floor.

I am in Texas where it is 80-100F with a lot of humidity.

If I run the wipers, the condensation, which is on the outside goes away but almost instantly reforms.

It doesn't seem to make any difference if the a/c is on or not, or the recirc is on or not. Also the front defrost setting has little to no effect, unless I put full heat on and the window defrost option, which is hardly practical when it is 90F outside.

Anyone else getting this issue?

I'm having the same issue here in Houston. It happens because the humid air outside is coming in contact with your cold windshield (from your ac) and the water vapor cools and condenses. It might help if you apply a product like Rain-X to your windshield.

think of it this way.

Can of bud light. Cold beer inside (think of inside car). Warm moist air outside (think of Houston, hard right?) Condesate forms on outside of beer (think of outside of windshield where the A/C is blowing on it).

Happens on every car I have ever own'd. Especially at night. (Higher humidity at night)

Cure: Put something over the defroster vents on the dast when is starts happening. Back in the day i would use a few CD cases some times. iPod dont work so well now. LOL

Remember those dash-pads that people would have made to protect the dash? I had one of them made, but just to cover the defrost vents, and would pull it back a little when I needed the defrosters. This was for a Chevy Pickup application, but would work the same.

And thanks for reminding me, i am gonna need one for the raro. <-git it?

i don't think i've ever ran the AC for so long that the interior of the car got cold enough to make the windshield of the car get cold enough to form condensation on the outside. make sure you're not pushing air out the top of the dashboard through your "heater/defrost" vents.

CA...ever been to Houston?

As soon as you turn on the defrost, the A/C comes on.

i understand the science behind humidity % and dew point temperatures.

this is why you don't want the AC blowing up against your windshield. the higher the humidity, the higher the dew point temperature.

After re-reading you post, sounds like you may have a damper position problem. Or a pluggage (rag, somebodys lunch) in there. Dealer time.

Easy fix... go to Walmart and get some RAIN-X. I never have any problems with morning dew, condensation, or rain. Windows always stay dry. Just use it inside and out.

I just had my license plates put on by the dealer (yeah, had to have a front one) and mentioned it to a service person. They suggested there may be some kind of issue with that defrost vent leaking air onto the screen.

I only ever use the vent setting for just me, or me and the floor, never a wind shield setting.

And I am fully aware of what condensation is. I've just not ever had it happen on a modern car, even in Texas. Not like this.

My other theory was that they treated my car with that crap they put on to 'protect' the paint (and no, I didn't pay for that crap!). Wondered if they got some on the windshield.

I had thought about putting a dose of RainX there right in the small area that it happens. I like that idea, because even if it is a problem that the service department might be able to fix, it is a very subtle problem which they could just as easily miss during a service.

As always thanks for the responses.

I have the same problem UP here in northern IL. Its been very hot and VERY

HUMID. At nighttime I use HOT air on the windshield to clear it, then put it on

medium heat and low fan to keep it clear. I tried A/C, etc. and found this to work.

I get this problem too, I just run with the windows down at night. I have found that switching the a/c setting to one or two clicks above the MAX setting helps.

Same thing here guys...(only during summer tho)...Try Fog-X, same guys who make Rain-X. Aside from a mild greasy look for a day(until i buffed the hell out of it) it worked for a few months with one application.
