Scarf some uni-strut. Pull the mat out of your trunk so the masonite that covers the battery compartment is exposed. Put the tire on top of that and mark the edges. Cut to length and Align the uni-struts with those marks and drill thought the masonite. 5/16 or 3/8" carriage bolts should fit. Two bolts on each piece should be sufficient.
Then it won't slide forward or sideways in case of an emergency maneuver.

A camping chair isn't going to do you any favors when propelled by a spare tire into the back of your head.
The trunk has two steel loops designed SPECIFICALLY for securing the flat tire, or a full size spare. This is described in the OWNER'S MANUAL. Of course, we SS owners don't get a strap or a spare, but you can buy a high strength woven strap with a come-along at AutoZone. Mine is 800 lbs. test. Route the strap through the loops and the wheel spokes, then draw light with the come-along.

Any attempt to secure the spare to the flimsy masonite cover or to rely on the seat back is BOGUS. That's why those steel loops are provided in the trunk.

As for how I secured mine, I just got a threaded coupler and another rod with the same thread pitch and used the stock thing to screw down into the hub hole and secure it
Just to clarify, Will the OEM SS front 20x8" wheel work as a spare on the front AND the rear of a SS 1LE ?

Thanks G

Where abouts are the steel loops described in the owners manual? Couldn't find it here https://justgivemethedamnmanual.com/...openfile=false Pic of loops would help.

Llink to the straps you mention would be appreciated.

The procedure for securing a full-size wheel are on page 10-84 of your manual, although the illustration is not very good. The loops are on the inside of the aft wall of the trunk. They are painted body color.

You can get straps with come-along type buckles at any auto supply store. You don't need one with hooks. Just route through one trunk loop, then through wheel spokes to the other loop, and return through spokes back to the buckle. And FOR GOD"S SAKE don't use an elastic rubber tie down. Here's a link to a 900 lbs. test strap, which will secure the wheel in a collision. In a 10g collision, your wheel weighs 600 lbs.

Avoid using the GOOP aerosol stuff.

Get a tire-plug kit.

Reinflate plugged flat tire with electric pump.

Will solve majority of road-hazard-related flat-tire situations.

If you are concerned about not being able to find the puncture, carry a tiny bottle of dish-soap to mix with a bottle of drinking water. Use soapy solution to find puncture, and repair with plug kit.

Who looking for a spare wheel, can use 5" BMW spare.
Without, spacers, without problems- front, rear and trunk.

Y'all will need to ensure the same rolling ride height for the rear or you'll wind up the diff and cause damage. Should be OK for front (and you can always stick a steer tyre on the driven axle)

Yes of course. If the rear wheel is damaged, the front wheel must be rear and instead of the front wheel use spare.
