I think they are sacrificial. The bulk of the passenger compartment provides the safety enclosure intended to keep you alive. The front of the car is intended to absorb "some" of the impact but as I mentioned are primarily sacrificial and likely designed to rip away.

Wow, this really stinks mainly for the loss of life. Obviously I rather see a car written off than a person.

When I first saw this, I thought to myself that he definitely hit another vehicle and that this was the result of their combined speeds. When I found out he reportedly hit a tree, now I'm wondering just how fast he was going. Then again, I feel like I strongly underestimate how much damage a tree does since they tend not to budge much during an impact...

Not sure why I chuckled at this. Sad for obvious reasons. Someone's son, brother, husband or father not coming home. It didn't need to happen.

On a side note I will admit the brakes comment was sickly funny. Then again I'm not totally PC.

Let's all learn from this. Be safe everyone.

The first day I drove mine and was carefully testing the power and handling on a nice mountain road one thought occurred to me. I thought about the folks with that adrenaline rush not realizing the power they have got and the experience one needs to use that power. These pictures are the result of that. People, if you are getting an SS or any other car in this class, please get to know it first before you get too brave. If you mash that gas pedal you WILL lose it. This car ain't no joke.
