This question has been asked and answered NUMEROUS times. A simple search will come up with most if not all of them.

The answer depends on what your going for...

If it's for more power...It's not really worth it as the stock manifolds flow pretty darn well.

If for looks, then of course the shorty's will look good.

On a side note, most dealer's won't have TOO many problems with LT's and cats.. as it just free's up the air. If you tune it to get rid of the CEL...that's where your issues begin...

I dont have an ss nor researched it but in a copy of GMHTP mag they did shorties on an ss and got 7 hp at peak and all through the range as well. I'll see if I still have it.

There are those who will say Shorty's are a waste of time, but then tell that to the Mustang Coyote Engineers who spent alot of time looking for best "Shorty" design for that engine, and ended up going with an in house design that made the most power, but even they admitted in the 5.0 article at best even their design was worth 7-9 RWHP but every bit was worth it. So with the best Shorty that is probably the best gain you will see. But your warranty will be likely more safe with them. Long Tubes that depends on your dealer and if you got a tune for them. Best Brands BBK was tested to have a solid 7 rwhp in some GM magazine recently cant remember which one. I would do a search on that.

So best bang for your buck is LT'S. Shortys just aren't worth the $$ if unless your going for looks. I'm not saying there is no gains, just that its not really worth the money.

Shortys will gain you a little bit of power but no where near what a long tube header will gain you. We typically see between 20-30rwhp without a tune with our long tube setup.

I have thought of putting the long tubes on mine as well but I don't want to have the codes and stuff that i was seeing people get. I have JBA cat back now and will try to get the headers on this summer. Any suggestions on the tuner after the JBA LT and High flow cats?

I put JBA shorties on mine. I dynoed before and after. My gains were only about 8 hp on average between low end and peak. I was pretty disappointed. The sound improvements are a different story. The engine sounds a lot better and more aggressive. I didn't want to jeopardize my warranty so that is as far I want to go for now. Shorties look way better than stock too. If you are looking for big power gains you have to go with lt.

Now put a set of Solo Hi-Flo Cats on and check those dyno numbers again

I am happy with the car for now. I plan on doing something like a Mast heads/cam package with proper LT, AFM tuneout sometime.

Shorties alone won't do much. Imo you need to plan to pair them up with some hf cats and you will get more out of them. I live in California where LTs are not really an option so I went Jba shorties and hf cats. And the gain was very noticeable. I'm sure most came from the hf cats but imo the shorties are worth it. But in reality you can't compare LTs and shorties when it comes to HP numbers. If your looking to just get shorties alone and not mess with the cats id stay with the stock manifolds or go LTs.
