v6 horsepower increase

ok besides the typical exhuast, headers and intake.... is there anything us V6 guys can bolt on or get to increase our horsepower and torque. besides dropping 5 or 6 grand on a STS turbo? The V8's have Cam's, and Port and Polish, intake manifold, things like that.... do we have any other options as V6 owners?????

i realize that the V8 is a push rod V8 and ours is a DOHC but still... do we have other options for the engine besides an STS turbo, exhuast, headers, and intake?

I gotta say that I specifically bought my V6 because I wanted to use it as a commuter car.. with good MPGs. Already having 3 GM v8s was good enuff for me.

I have spent about $700 on Injen and Flowmasters.. and I'm good, but not even remotely close in HP to the SS

Point is.. why are so many of U buying the V6.. when U obviously want SS power?? It was only about $4K more and U could mod the hell outta an LS3 engine.

To answer your question tho... The 3.6L is pretty locked up. Exhaust, CAI, and Turbos are all that I kno of to get U more power.

You didn't say tune. So you can do that if you don't care about a warranty. I think that would pretty much be it.

The SS was $7,000 more.

I bought the V6 as a daily driver, and I love putting the exhaust and intake stuff on. But I agree. In general, too many people are asking too much out of the V6. I think Chevy spoiled us with the 312 HP. If it only had 200 horses, I don't think people would be expecting too much.

3.55 gears for more torque? I hear 3.73 is coming for the V6... good for a lot of torque. Which is what i want. lol. You can also get a Nitrous Setup for quite cheap... if you want those quick boosts

It's locked up for handheld tuners. Not for Trifecta, apparently, though.

Here is a thread on it:

Here is Trifecta's website:

http://trifectaperformance.com/

And here is their dyno, with pretty good reults:

Gears only for the M6s. No heads out there yet. One guy here named BMWDON is in process of installing mod heads that he had done but no results reported. Other than nitrous which is obviously not a full time increase, there is nothing more out there right now. Not a huge market for domestic V6 performance enhancement kinda keeps us on the back burner.

Looking at a october install on the heads, just enough time to make sure the challenger is rock solid on the new engine and if I feel it's reliable, it'll be heads and trifecta tune time.

I hadn't seen trfecta's tune dyno results. I wonder what they did different for their dyno than everyone else has been doing because people haven't seen those huge increases from the tune. I'm hoping he's tweaking it a little more and not leaning it out too much. This does look good, though.

The big selling point for the V-6 was the (is the) MPG that is attained with the power that is made. When you consider that this motor makes 1.43 HP
per cubic inch that's a respectable accomplishment. That's like having a
430 HP 302 back in '69. I'm hoping for some intake manifold options in the future and camshaft options.Until then I'll be happy with doing whatever is available.

cams are going to be money, mainly because we've got 4 to work with. I couldn't imagine they would create a intake side or exhaust side only, they would likely have to do 4 and that will make the mod an expensive one. If they increase lift much, more than likely you would need a beefier set of valve springs, which only adds to the cost of it all. So a set of cams/springs will probably set you back $1300-1500, then add in install costs, and the gains would probably only be 25-35hp crank max. Now add those ontop of ported heads, maybe even bigger valves if you could ever find a set that would fit and work right, you are looking at a much better air mover, but it'll be close to 3K worth of hardware not including labor, and not as much gain as a bolt on s/c or turbo. 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of another. I'm up for more power, but at a reasonable price to me.

3.55 gears available for the automatics, but no real data on how much of a performance increase going to 3.55 gives. But if you have a manual, you have many other gear options available......probably end up being one of the best TQ/dollar mods available.

gears and nos will be your best bang for the buck mods probably, otherwise, it's going to be money to get these V6's really fast.
