You’re right. Need a smog check at the beginning of the 7th year. So 6 years of operation from new.

I ran across a couple more regulations as well. Noise level is limited to 95 dB per SAE J1169 test.

Kalifornia:

The place that spends hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to make sure you don’t put an aftermarket exhaust on your car, but lets undocumented terrorists walk in and gives them free medical care. And you wonder why the other 49 states hope you leave.

The biggest thing is modifying the stock NPP will not make the car louder at all. If the fuse is pulled the mufflers are open. Changing to a different exhaust will make the car quieter. First thing is you need to get rid of the secondary cats and maybe swap to short headers if you aren't planning on moving any time soon, like the others have said. I don't know if changing the stock H to an X will make it any louder either.

if you live in california and want to stay smog legal and have a loud exhaust, just run straight pipes (with an xpipe) after the secondary cats.

or

just dont give a **** like me and run 1 7/8 headers, no cats, and 3" pipes with xpipe and keep the NPP mufflers (or your choice of mufflers) on and enjoy the song of our people!
