Winter set up on stock rims

Well... that time of year is slowly creeping on us. I've tried looking through the FAQ about winter set ups but can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

I have a '14 2ss with stock rims and I'm biting the bullet to drive it this winter as I have a much shorter commute to save money. Now what I did read was to make all 4 tires the same size for winter which will make the back ones smaller for better traction. So the million dollar question is what size winter tires should I buy for all 4 stock rims? They're 20 inches with 275 rear and 245 front.. will it matter if its 45r or 40r for all 4?

Thanks!

I went with 245's on the rear and they lasted 2 seasons.

The fronts are still fine so I bought some 275's for the rear and they work great in the snow.

You don't need pizza cutters on the rear.

Nitto nt90w offers our oe size, I also drive a 14 ss. The nitto snow is a great tire! Check it out, because the above poster is right. You dont need smaller tires in the rear.

So it's good to have winters for the rear and the stock pirellis in the front?

No, you need to run snows all the way around (all 4 corners). You can decide to run the same staggered fitment, or different. Snow tires are rated for the possible negative temperatures and will yield (throw snow) safely. Your stock tires are high performance summers that are rated to 45°, not made for snow. Totally different designs and purposes.

If you can, run 2 set ups, its worth it. My summers are A/S tires and on aftermarket, my snows are on the factory rims....see the photos below

No you should run snow tires on all for corners.

If you looking for deals, look on CL, FB Marketplace and on here for used stuff, pops up a lot. I got mine used from a local guy.

LOL just making sure. Realistically could the 245/45r20 fit on the back rims as well?

I think I'm going to start running 2 tire/rim set ups like how you have.

Another user on this post successfully ran the front tire size on the rear for 2 winter seasons.

I have personally never used smaller tires, always the staggered fitment sizing.

Yeah and they wore out way to fast.

What does it cost to go up to 275's? $10-20 per tire.

Something about the tires I like, the fronts are normally 10-20 more per tire than the rears...go figure.

Leave to me to make it harder...other poster moves to Florida and I move to South Dakota. Will be an interesting first winter.

I use 245/45 front and back. This will be my 5th year on them and still tread on it. Bridgestone Blizzak

Your stock wheels are staggered so you might as well get a staggered setup. It's not like you're going to be able to rotate them anyways. I myself have two sets of wheels/tires. Throwing on the winter set this weekend.
