So...GoPro just announced they're releasing a new version, the GoPro Hero3.

It will have three variants: White Edition, Silver Edition, and Black Edition

White Edition ($199.99) will be the basic version that is more or less the same as the Hero2, but in a smaller package, with Wi-Fi built in.

Silver Edition ($299.99) will be similar to the White Edition, but with upgraded timelapse photo capabilites, and will also include the option of shooting 1080p in "Ultra Wide," "Medium," and "Narrow" fields of view

Black Edition ($399.99) will be the premium option that has 4 higher resolution options than the currently offered 1080p for video as well as super-quick burst photo modes (that can shoot up to thirty 12MP shots in one second) and it also comes with a Wi-Fi Remote included.

The Black Edition can shoot 1080p video (which has a resolution of 1920x1080) at 60, 48, 30 or 24fps whereas the Silver can only shoot at 30 or 24fps and the White can only shoot at 30fps like the current Hero2 model.

The Black Edition's higher resolution options for video are as follows:
2.7k Cin - 2716x1440 (17:9) @ 24fps
2.7k - 2716x1524 (16:9) @ 30fps
4k Cin - 4096x2160 (17:9) @ 12fps
4k - 3840x2160 (16:9) @ 15fps

I can't decide which edition I want now, but I may be selling both of my Hero2 cameras soon to make way for the Hero3's

I have a hard time justifying the Black Edition. I don't think my Alienware laptop could handle having to process video at those higher resolutions. And that's a pretty absurd statement...

But having Wi-Fi built in makes the Silver Edition look very sweet

I am going to try to return mine and get a white edition. So the only thing the silver has over the white is the photo timelapse thing and screen fields of view?

Here's a comparison chart between the three editions:

http://gopro.com/product-comparison-hero3-cameras

I think if I'm going to get a 3, I want it to be more equipped than the 2, that's why I'm going to get the Silver Edition. It's kind of nice having the flexibility to choose what level of product you want without getting a whole bunch of extra features that you'll never need.

The only thing the White Edition gives you over the 2 is the built-in wi-fi, I think.

Which to some may be worth it

All I really want is the wifi. I read you can watch a live view from a smart phone or tablet

EDIT: Maybe I do want the silver. The white is only 5MP the silver is 11MP... my Hero 2 is 11MP.

I think the White is supposed to be comparable to the original Hero, with built-in wi-fi.
And I think the Silver is supposed to be comparable to the Hero2, with built-in wi-fi.

At least, that's what the two comparison tables appear to indicate on the site...

It also looks like a firmware update is going to be released for the Hero2 to improve it a lot...

You guys should check out the ReplayXD. About $299 (last time i bought one) and a lot easier to use too. Having both, I favor the replay far over my 2 gopros.

They even offer an external mic, as well as hardwiring so yo can stream directly to a different monitor.

How is a GoPro hard to use? It has 2 buttons! I press the power button, press the other button, and proceed to drive around recording.
