This might sound stupid but do you think there is any chance if his insurance company finds out he was driving on tires that Goodyear has stated should not be drove on in temps under 40 that they will deny his claim? It might sound stupid but some insurance companies will do anything to keep from paying for a 60k car.

This ↑↑↑.

Just starting up from a stop and turning onto the cross street with normal traffic is enough. Using only a small fraction of less than 300 wheel HP is plenty good enough to make this happen with top-shelf summer performance rubber in the cold, never mind trying to use more of 500 or so.

In fact, that's precisely MY cue to take MY summer performance tires off and put the OE all-seasons back on for the winter.

You don't have to even be driving erratically to get in to trouble with the wrong tire. Tires have an operational temperature range for a reason. I don't think some of you appreciate just how much friction between the tire and surface is required to change the direction of 4100+ lbs of moving object in the short amount of time that you're in a curve/turn.

Just think of what it takes to make your own body radically change direction when you're running and now apply that to a car.

Traction Circle is a very real thing and if you're already using near 100% to supply movement, guess how much you have left over for directional changes.

As opposed to running in to the cow and causing just as much or more damage? I've seen what just a Deer will do to an F-150 front end.. I can't imagine a cow to the front of a Camaro.
