This is all fine and dandy, but how much will it cost?

The checkered pattern help hide the details of the lines of the car body. Much like the black and white lines on a zebra.

Does that mean that they will not start production in January as previously stated? How long will it take to drive half a million miles? I am really looking forward to this car and I do want it built right but to me it sounds more like they will start production in March or April than in January. That would only be 3 or 4 months of production before the new model year plant break in mid July. Listen to the end of the video and let me know what you think.
That could be the case. Remember that there is quite a bit riding on this car. One of the big statements that GM wants to make with this car is the handling! Mark even said in the video that this car will be a lot easier to drive than a Corvette... So they might need some extra time to iron out the calibrations...

Patience is a virtue my friend! It will all be well worth it in the end.

Just 1 more month before they announce pricing!

Most people are guesstimating a starting price right below $50k, but expect to go near $60k for a fully loaded ZL1.

sounds like it will be out at the same time they will start producing 2013 camaros...that is a LOT of miles but i believe they are using that car to try and reach 250,000- .5 mil miles

I read that the ZL1 will be a short run, limited production car if that helps. Then, again, it does all depend on demand which I can already see here!

FYI: I am very happy to say that I witnessed a Black 5th gen Camaro at the LSX Shootout in Indy this last weekend (Oct. 8 and 9 for me) do a 1/4 mile under 10 secs. I was awed to say the least. The driver was from either KY or TN. Sorry I don't remember the details because I was so dumbfounded. This may not be news to some of you Camaro5 avid readers, but I have not kept up with the posted track times on this website. Maybe someone else who was there can fill in more juicy details.

As an owner of a 2008 Corvette, the commentator was right on, particularly with plain street tires. As sweet as it drives (and it is really sweet), with TC off and getting on it a bit (throttle definitely not buried) in 1st gear, my vette wants to swap the rear end with the front end, with the rear sliding left. Leaving the TC on in 1st and into 2nd, the muffler growl and engine roar seems to scare the be-jesus and obviously impresses the misplaced thinking of a occasional uneducated wantabes in the next lane.

I haven't decided yet, but considering adding an Edelbrock superchcarger (554hp,515tq minimum tune) along with Corsica pipe system. Going from stock, I would keep a sleeper status (no badges). Any thoughts on additional needed changes with these?

ZL1 Base

Since the ZL1 isn't exactly the best family car, if I could come close to affording one, it would have to be the base model with no options. A base model will come with all the ammmenities standard that you really need, the performance requirements (I can't see them letting one of these loose on public roads without magnetic ride control), AC, cruise, power windows and driver seat, etc, etc. I could do without leather. Plus, additional options add weight. The exterior appearance will be the same loaded or not. I'm still betting on a less than $50k starting price.

I really don't think Ford is going to stand by idly and let GM steel the GT500s thunder...I'm hoping they don't have a choice and the ZL1 will simply be too much for them to compete.

Your car doesn't need a whole lot to get into the 11s and that's fast. Anthing under 11.5 requires a roll cage at most tracks and I dont' think you want that...it would kinda give the sleeper idea away to the guy in the next lane. I would add headers, HF cats, a Vararam, dynotune and a ported throttlebody and you'll be there. All that for $2500-3000 compared to $8K for a SC. Now, will it beat a stock ZL1 with those mods????....I think so! (NOTE: Did you mean a Corsa exhaust?) Add $2K for a Corsa axleback.

Thanks, ParisTNDude! Sorry for this late reply. Don't get online as often these days.
Yes, Corsa is correct. Showing my ignorance and noticed the mistake after posting.
What you are saying makes a lot of sense to me. I have never been on the track, but considering the perf and quickness already, a SC might be over the top for me personally. I will keep your info for future reference.
I finally found the Corvette forum tonight and I have a lot of reading to do.
PS: Not concerned about beating a ZL1 or any other Chevy, just the other brands. haha
