XM radio reception problems?
I recently noticed very slight reception issues on any xm radio channel in my camaro with the premium BA sound system. It kinda sounds like bad streaming internet radio where I just miss a split second of a song. It tends to happen about 5 - 10 or so times during a given song. This occurs anytime, even when the car is at rest without any satellite obstructions anywhere around.
This only affects the xm channels, the FM / cd works just fine. I was wondering if anyone else noticed this? Maybe this is actually a problem with the feed that xm is sending up? If someone else can confirm that their XM is working fine or has the same issue, I would really appreciate it. |

Gaps in reception on XM
I have had my car less than a month and it loses XM reception completely in the carport, under trees and when passing under power lines. Has anyone experienced that issue?

Yes, XM reception is poor in some of the more rural areas I drive in (not that Eastern Mass is all that rural), and is non-existent inside my garage.

I had my car for 4 months now and did not renew the XM because I would lose about every 3 minutes on the way to and from work. Trees, Powerlines and something underground in this one spot everyday it cuts out completely. I enjoyed the channels but Beaufort, SC is not the best place for XM.

These types of reception issues could be caused by prolonged driving through a long tunnel or in parking garages may cause a brief loss of signal, while driving in extremely mountainous regions may cause a decrease in signal strength. If these are not the types of terrain or building that you encounter on your day to day driving I would suggest having the vehicle checked by your dealer. There may be something with the vehicle causing this issue. I hope that helps. If you do end up going to your dealer for anything let me know please!

I have had this same issue. While driving in town on a 7 lane road. Mine would cut out worse when going north, but I could turn around and go south and it was better. The dealer found that it is the painted antenna. The more metallic your paint the worse the reception.

I had the same problem with XM. In a 20 mile test I did it with Xm and then sirius. About 10 miles was in wooded and a set of rail road tracks. The XM would lose signal about 12 times. I installed a sirius radio using the shark fin antenna and tested it on the same course. I lost signal about 10 times. I did the test again but using the sirius antenna and I only lost signal 3 times. I believe it the shark fin has some to with the reception

Sunroof? I see this more often with the sunroof open (although not near as bad as the wifes Grand Prix). FM doesn't use the shark fin.
It's because the sunroof blocks the front of the shark fin. Last edited by JimE; 05-17-2013 at 07:42 PM. |

I had a Saturn aura xr, the xm antenna was in front of the car. I never lost reception. Since buying the camaro I lose it in the garage, under bridges, and passing buildings. Today I notice that when the sunroof is open I even lose reception.

Yup mine goes out if I have the sunroof open all the way. I have noticed if you close the sunroof a little it works great.
