Repair could be $300, could be $1300... an old lady backed into my bumper a while ago (didn't the the screamin' yella Camaro), and while the damage appeared to be minimal, the body shop was unable to repair the bumper cover... had to be replaced (Yes, her insurance covered it, but not without a fight). The shop owner (a friend) said that SOMETIMES they can remove wrinkles/ bends using heat and pressure, but not always.

BTW, bummer about the backup accident, but I applaud backing (instead of nosing) into the parking place ("combat parking," to a military man). You never know when you are going to need to leave in a hurry, and you are at least guaranteed good visibility when you do. It's very rare that I am nosed into a spot, and when I do, it just doesn't feel right.

The 2X4 was a good idea... I vote for leaving it there, just taking it a little slower, so that you feel it. But, a 4x4 would probably work, too, and a couple of big lag bolts would keep your prankster buddies from moving it a couple of feet closer to the house (!). Another idea it to pick some stationary mark on the ground, and back to exactly that point, or, even buy one of those backup alert lights ($20, mounts on the wall, blinks a light at you when you reach some predetermined distance).

We have a small three inch step in a walkway that's on the side of the driveway. On my previous cars I needed a 2x4 laid down on its side to easily go up this step. I knew when the front tires hit this step, not to go back further. But the Camaro had a lot more power at idle and it went up and over the step and hit the house. I yelled out a few choice words. Then when I got out and saw what I had done, I kicked the light up Christmas deer on the front lawn.

I've since removed the 2x4 and am going to be a lot more careful.

Hopefully this can just be sanded, filled and repainted. Going to the body shop after work Monday.

First: never admit this type of thing. Say "SHIT I'M A DUMMY" to yourself if you have to but don;t spread the story. It will die hard.

Second: yes it can be sanded and sprayed for cheap money. Crap bodyshops are all over the USA. You may not be happy with the result of a sand and spray. Maybe that color is easy to blend.

First scratch is always the hardest. Sorry about that! I was pulling into a parking space, misjudged the height of the cement barrier thing and now have a small scratch. :(

Reminds me of when I was a kid and took my brothers Ford Probe and ran it into the side of our garage.. Ended up knocking the house of the foundation and I tried to cover it up with spray paint.

In the end, I blame Ford.

I'm an idiot. Backed into my house.

I've driven into the retaining brick wall between us and next door and moved the top 3 layers of brick!!

Next door is 4' lower than us on our Hill :-O

It's always easier to pull in the garage and the back out. Rather than backing in the garage.

Here's one for the record...New camaro and trying to promote restaurant with a marque sign. Car was protected with blankets and pads. ..did the dummy that owns put the sign before backing up 2" to go home.....NO...I was so mad at myself. Nice 2" scratch right in the center highpoint of the passenger side door.

Next dumb move...asked the hubby to paint the scratch...
