I heard of this quite a while ago, if fact several earlier V6'ser reported blowing there Eng. due to stretch Timing chain. GM supposedly corrected this on later 2010's

Loss of oil , possibly, haven't heard anything about crashing the valves.

So what's the diagnosis TJ?
And how many miles on the car?

It will be ready to hit 193,000 in a couple of days. I also had to change a brake lamp. Still looks, drives, handles , as new. The only wear item is the steering wheel. Seats look like new as does the carpet.

Took my 2010 for a check engine light and I just got the call that it's the timing chains, 82,000 miles, will be covered under the powertrain warranty

I would inquire about it as I thought they extended the warranty. There is also a Chevrolet Service Rep that drops in some threads that you could ask.

Thanks for your update! It's great to hear that the dealer addressed your concerns and service is wrapping up soon. Please let us know how the vehicle operates moving forward and don't hesitate to message us if any additional questions or concerns arise.

There are some field actions pertaining to certain vehicles regarding the extension. It's also on a case-by-case basis that warranties are extended.

So , has anyone had to pay out of pocket yet ? If so, how much ?

Anyone had one fail yet that was AFTER the supposed fix date ?

Also, is it safe to say, when it does fail, your engine light comes on, and you loose engine power, but the engine does not self implode with valve damage ?

only thing i can answer is the last part....

You will notice reduced performance and decreased MPG... Then you will get the CEL indicating that the chains have stretched causing the cam timing to be out of spec.... the chains don't actually "Fail" in that sense that they actually break, rather they go out of spec so to speak by becoming to long.... They do not stretch enough where the valve will hit the pistons as far as i know...

Found this today on Facebook from the v6 fans down under. Apparently it's been a problem for quite some time

Yes, a lot of members have had to pay out of pocket. It's about 2000 for the job.

Yeah, add me to the list. It is a $2000 repair. My car (a 2010) was 700 miles out of the warranty period. Ouch.
