$1,650 for cam install and street tune?

So I was just quoted 1650 for a cam install with springs and a street tune. Does this sound about right this is just labor I would be supplying my own parts?

seems high to me. 1200 bucks for labor? for a cam install.

which most shops can do a cam in a 8 hour day and not work all that hard at it. tunes run 300 to 500 usally.

seems high to me. my buddy at kyspeed bought him a camaro he put full exhaust , c.a.i. lg g5x3 cam in 6 hours. but he works on them dailly so he knows them like no other.

i paid 1600 for my cam installed , he bought the parts springs, rods, cam , gaskets, bolt. and tuned. thats was about 300 to 400 in labor. i got a good deal tho. but i would think 500-700 is average.

Sounds low actually.. Depending on the cam components included. Most "cam kits" are around $750-850 with gaskets, dual springs, cam, etc. Then there is usually 6-7 hours of labor, plus the tune $300-500 depending on your tuner.

Yea they are charging 1200 for labor and 400 for the tune. I still have to buy the parts myself.

Is this an LSx shop or a speed shop that does everything? $1200 in labor for JUST the cam does sound high, but if they are not familiar with the engines they may be charging extra to compensate for them taking longer to do it...versus the rest of us who do them daily and can do it quickly.

Seems right along the lines of what I paid for my cam from Lethal and it was a sale going on for anything done at their shop. Other shops charged me around $3000 for the cam kit, install, and tune, so technically this is a pretty good price tbh. Who are the ones doing the work? Are they a big and reputable performance shop or a hole in the wall shop?

Thats a great deal if they are quality parts.

Litle88 on the forums here helped me out bigtime on this exact concern. I am going from an L99 so I also needed the LS3 conversion. with the cam, springs, conversion, everything I needed and all quality parts came to $1,516.00 parts alone.

I hate to put him on the spot but if i were you thats who I would ask if you are serious about spending that kind of dough and wanting it right.

It's a speed shop that specializes in lsx engines and it the cam and springs that the labor is for.

Sorry about last reply. Didn't notice this was just labor. Little high. figure $100 hour labor which should be about $800 then $400 for tune.

High!
Go somewhere else but they gotta be an LsX shop!!

100 dollars per hour x 16 hours? That's two days lol
200 dollars per hour x8 hours?
Tell them to pound sand! Sorry but no IMHO.

If that is including parts that is CHEAP! I know when I did my cam I had almost 1k in parts, gaskets, fluids. You figure a tune costs around 300-450 and then labor around 800 (cheapest) at a good shop.

That just labor and tune. No parts. I just call another shop and was quoted at 1900
