Like everyone else said that's a tad high. 300-500 for labor only is about the norm

That's a bit high. I paid that for labor for my cam, headers, full exhaust and a dyno tune.

Keep in mind labor in the pacific nw is ~$120+ an hour, it is not cheap like it is in the south.

Son, here is Friday's lesson.....don't nickel & dime a reputable HIPO shop, it's the customer care after the install is what you should focus on. The shops I am referring to will bend-over-backwards to assure 100% total customer satisfaction & we all know who they are.....cheap is found everywhere!

It doesn't sound to far off. I'm sure you can find a cheaper price, but how is the work? Don't cheap out on your car. It always comes back to bite you in the ass. |

It's 100-120 down here at the well known shops but they can get it done quicker since they've done a ton of lsx work.

for labor...yes, that is high.
but to include the tune...still a little on the high side. but it depends on what tuning software they are using. $800 in labor is a little high, even at $85/hr. not sure what the book states for required time to complete the swap but i know if i were to do it again (as i am not a trained mechanic) i could do it in a day (8hrs max). add another $3-400 for the tuner and then dyno time...$1600 is a little on the high side but not too far off. hopefully that price also includes the cost of fluids. (800(labor)+400(tuner)+250(dyno)=$1450ish) i installed my own cam ($849+seals, gaskets, fluids, timing chain, timing gear, trunion upgrade,...about $1400 total in parts(could have been less)) and bought my own HPTuner ($600 for the pro version) and paid $285 for the dyno tune after my install. you can easily save yourself $800 on the install if you 1. follow the "robertsway" guide. 2. have the majority of the tools or access to the tools needed for the install. 3. can afford the down time to do the install yourself. the tune should include a hand held programmer that goes with the vehicle. something like Diablo or HPTuners. just my .02

Do it yourself. I'm gonna have about $350 including all parts and labor for my cam install once I get around to it. Parts have been sitting on my shelf for almost 2 years, LOL.

Haha I actually found a guy that's going to help me do it myself for $350 so the only other things I have to pay for would be parts and a tune.

oh that is high, I had getting my heads ported(stock heads), cam labor(including the LS3 top end conversion), and retune priced at $1000... which means I could have ported heads/cam/Ls3 top swap tuned and ready to go on my car for around $2300-2400...
of course this same shop hung my full exhaust from header to tips for $250... anyone who lives anywhere close to the northwest corner of Alabama needs to get with me, we have a hidden gem here... a guy I know just got a whipple put on an '01 Cobra for less than a grand and this shop does very good work, no B.S... they are just always busy, so it might be a week or two(or 3) before they can work you in, only downside I guess
