Knock or clunk from rear but not during cold weather
So I've read through practically every thread on here that mentions a noise from the rear of the car.
Specifically mine "seems" to come from the passenger rear. It sounds like something bouncing against the body of the car. For instance if you tap the back side of your car with your knuckle (like around the gas filler) it is a similar sound to that. Here's how it happens: ONLY over bumps. No whine, screech, roar, etc. Just the knock. It can be one knock or multiple depending on the surface. It ONLY happens in warmer weather. I noticed it last summer after I bought the car but during the entire winter the noise disappeared. Now that it's warming up, it's back. What I've done: Been on a lift. I have pulled and yanked on everything I could lay my hands on. Removed trunk carpeting and dug around under there on the right side near fuse box. Made sure battery, spare, etc solidly in place. Nothing rolling around in that area. Rear fender wells are solidly in place. Wheel size doesn't matter. Made same noise before new wheels. So what could be making noise but not during colder (probably less than 45 degrees or so) weather? Ideas? Thanks. |

Any suspension work done? All suspension-related nuts and bolts tight?

Ever mess with the differential? Cold weather will thicken the oil thus reduce any noises in the diff. Hot weather thins the oil so you hear more noises. Upgraged diff bushings? Eaton true trac?

Pulling on a part while on a lift won't verify anything unless it's completely broken. Tighten the crap outta everything, especially sway bar end links. Use loctite. That solves 90% of issues. There's a lot of slop in a stock drivetrain which also contributes.
