Radar detector paid for itself this week

Was in an older part of town to visit my grandfather this week. Leaving, I got on a road with a 50mph speed limit. In old folks town, this means "better do 40 just to be safe".
I got behind one old folk, doing the 40, and passed without incident, of course I had to exceed the speed limit to get around him quickly. Old folk #2 wasn't far off, doing 40. I go to pass when my K band hits 8. I let off, and sure enough around the curve was a cop scanning for speeders. Patiently passed by without incident, then passed the old folk shortly after.
I know they aren't fool-proof, but if they save you from just one ticket they've paid for themselves, IMO, So I now have a 'free' radar detector!

My V1 has paid for itself several times. Around here, the speed limit is generally 65mph on the highway. The problem is, if you run 65mph, you are severely holding up traffic. Everyone seems to cruise at 75-80mph.

I've run one since I lost my license almost 30 years ago. My new Passport 9500ix is the best one yet. If it goes off, you can be pretty sure there is a cop somewhere.

Remember that scene in the first Jurassic park when Bob Peck is about to take out a group of raptors near the end of the movie while unfolding his gun quietly and then a raptor sticks his head out of the bushes, surprising him and eats him? That is the feeling I get when I pass a LEO hiding in the trees along the road while driving over the limit.

Nobody uses radar anymore around here. So what's the best laser detector?

LOL at the old folks!!

Laser jammers are illegal in some states, so be careful where used. I have Escort 9500ci, which was top of the line 5 years ago when it was installed. Such units are expensive, but so are tickets.

Currently not illegal in Md.

Laser detectors are not useless. Typically, the officer will fire his laser at the cars in front of you before he shoots you with it. Your detector will go off and you've got time to slow down. The only time the laser detection is useless is if you are the only car on the road. By the time it goes off, you've been clocked.

The times I've gotten tickets with Lidar my detector did not make a peep until I was right up on the cop and then it went straight to 9. Way too late to be useful.
