HELP plz ! is this dealer telling me stories ?

Hi guys,

First of all greetings everyone . This is my first post on Camaro5..

I'm a European guy passionate about cars and muscle cars. I just move to the USA for professionals reasons. After selling my S2000 in Europe I thought well at this point I might as well try something American while I'm here, and being a fan of the Camaro an SS gen5 looked like the best choice.

So with my very relative knowledge of how things work around here I start to chat with the dealer and he tells me you know the price might still change as the car still is in production, so I'll start a little higher in order for you to have a good surprise rather than a bad at the delivery if things change in the meantime.
I say hey cool better a good surprise than a bad once... We build the car and come to a quote.
At the moment of signing I read this on the purchase agreement : "vehicule will be priced at MSRP + $2500 + tax, lic., and any accessories...."
Candidely I thought this +$2500 was a margin the dealer was taking to cushion the "good surprise" thing... and I signed the thing.

Later talking with a buddy and showing him the order to proove I really had ordered a Camaro, he stops smilling reading this and tells me I have been price gouged and that the MSRP meant Manufacturer Sugested Retail Price, and that he just pocketed 2500 free bucks un my foreign stupid Arse ...

When I realised I told the dealer I wouldnt give him my coordinates in order to get a little bit of time to take a look at all that, and this morning I receive a mail with the workbench receipt using the adress of my company... Am I dreaming or did the dealer do that to get the order in the system before I can do anything to stop it ?

I have to confess now I am a bit confused... Have I been gouged ? Or is it really a way to cushion a eventual price change before the official MSRP is realised ?

Please chime in and let me know your opinion !

What's left to do ?

I am not writing the name and location of the dealer to give him the benefit of the doubt, as far as I know I might just be wrong about this, but if it turns out I really was taken advantage of I will mention name location and what I really think about all this.

Cheers !

Olivier

Yeah I think you got gouged my friend. There hasn`t been any announcment of a price change over the last little while. MSRP + 2500 means (In my opinion) that your salesman thinks he can play `screw over the foreign guy`and pocket 2500 buckeroos.

The official MSRP has been announced for quite some time. It's damn near set in stone. While the dealer was technically right that it could change (though unlikely) he did get you to sign a form pledging 2500 dollars over MSRP. You have been gouged.

I think your bud was correct. Sounds like you've been price gouged. Most of us (myself included) have orders stating "MSRP or less" and not "MSRP + $2500". I would return to the dealer and get your money back. Check out the MSRP or less thread and find a local dealer that'll help you out or call around and find one that will promise MSRP or less.

He gouged you good on that one!!! Go back to the dealer and tell him you want it for MSRP (without the + $2,500) or you will cancel your order. If you shop around, you can find a better deal, but definitely do not go above MSRP. My dealer agreed to MSRP - $500.

Only works if it's 2500.00 OVER current MSRP. GM is not going to raise this 10 % of base. You got hosed. Tell him to give the deposit back OR you will publish his name on here.

Thx for all the fast replies...

Thanks for the fast replies.... I guess I learned the hard way then ...

You know what, the guy would have been straight and told me market, demand, such a cool car bla bla I would almost have gave him these 2500...

I hate when I get this feeling I've been used cause I had no idea of the context !
Someone is going to get me on his back tomorrow...

Thanks again for the fast feedback

From one Brit to another.... you got screwed ROYALLY!!! Your dealer is telling you PORKIES!!

I would go back and explain in no uncertain terms that his practises were well below cloak and dagger and that you want to cancel your order. If he doesnt agree, agree to drag his name in the dirt using media and such until her returns your deposit.

BEST PRACTICE IS... always join a forum BEFORE you make any future large purchases. I have been watching this car evolve for two years and there was no way I was gonna put money down until I bounced ideas from the crazies on this forum. I mean that in a good way lol.

Stay right here on this forum and you will NEVER be had again!

GOOD LUCK!!

Agree for MSRP or LOWER!!! Not a dime over MSRP. Go get your money back and if he gives you crap, talk to the sales manager and tell him the crap he pulled. Get your money back or have him FIX the order!

You agreed to buy a car for $2500 over the manufacturers suggested retail price. I would not have done that personaly but that is what you agreed to.

I guess you don't have to follow through with that sale if you have changed your mind. It happens all the time. You might ask the dealer to renegotiate the sale now before the car shows up. If he will not do that then walk away and find one that will work with you. You can tell him your financial situation has changed and you need to cancell the order. Nothing has been built yet so no loss there.
