TPMS Sensors under Road Course Conditions

So I've been tracking my Z/28 since I purchased new and noticed that the rear TPMS sensors, especially the left rear, tend to go to no output, display a - instead of a pressure value, and turn on the Service TPMS light and warning message while on track.

Sometimes they come back with a reading within an hour sometimes they don't come back until relearned and at least one won't relearn. (I have three sets of Z/28 wheels with different types of tires)

I initially thought it might have been a bad sensor(s) but when I put a new set of tires on this fall I replaced all four sensors and the new set had the same rear TPMS issue as the previous sensors during my first session out on track with them.

Primarily running at Watkins Glen, which heavily loads and heats the left rear tire. I've also had this same problem at NCMMSP, Mid-Ohio and Mosport. I think it's a heat issue but not sure. I am not overpressurizing the sensor. I go out cold at 26 to 26.5 psi and typically end up at about 34 psi hot.

Anyone else seeing this type of problem with your TPMS when the tires get heavily loaded/used? Any insights on what the cause may be and fixes?

My right front sensor did same thing on a very hot track day. Swapped it out. No problems with it since then.

I track my car a lot and it has only happened once, so I figure at worst it's only going to be an occasional nuisance.

No issues for me so far. I've tracked with Nittos, Pirelli Trofeos, and now with Michelin Cups and the sensors have always worked fine. The only thing I've noticed is they respond quite slowly if you watch them live while pressurising the tyres on the car with a portable pump. Other than that they seem pretty good on mine, maybe you got unlucky with a dodgy one?

I've also heard of tyre shops damaging them during tyre fitment on other makes/models, don't know if this could be a potential issue with ours too?

Thanks for the responses. It's been very annoying as I like to do a quick check at the end of my first lap to see how much pressure has built up before I push the tires hard. If I swap the rears side to side the left rear will go out even though that same tire was fine on the right rear.

Ive driven in the same class as you at Watkins Glen in October of last year and I can verify that you do "push hard" I believe there were 5 Zs in our class and you were by far the fastest of the Zs!

I’ve never found the sensors to be accurate to my tire gauge. My gauge is digital. I’ve also cooked out 2 sensors from what I would assume extreme heat. I don’t run any sensors on my track set up.

I see that there are a few Z drivers from the Hudson Valley of New York.

I hope we can all get together next season at a track day. I belong to MMC but I do get to Lime Rock and the Glen at times.

I'm from Hastings, north of Syracuse, not Hastings-on Hudson. I spend a lot of time at Watkins Glen. Mostly with GVC BMW CCA.

I have never had any issues with mine other then being off 2 lbs. I keep that display showing on the read out and watch for my tires to heat up before pushing it. Then I watch to see if one is over heating and slow it back down. Has helped my tire life.
