Z28 brake kit - ever installed on SS, 1LE or ZL1?

This forum is an outstanding source for any kind of information and help!
Just fixed my AEM AFR gauge problem with your support.

Now I´m investigating if there is any experience with a Z28 brake upgrade done on SS, 1LE or ZL1?

Thanks for sharing

The difficult part will be finding all the brake components needed. The calipers and rotors I believe are restricted parts with GM. Meaning you cannot order them through GM without having a valid VIN and matching owners name for a Z/28.
Not only that buying all the components would be very expensive. Rotors alone would cost $1500+ each for the fronts. Not sure what the rears are listed at.

Most people that want upgraded brakes for track performance are going with a ZL1 style set up (aka CTS-V setup). If I find out I need more braking performance after this weekend at Road America I will be saving my money for the AP Racing kit offered through Essex. Look for Summit1LE's thread on these.

No parts restrictions any more. There are better options that dont cost almost 10 grand

The Z/28 rotor upgrade cost $10K ??

For that price I can add a supercharger and all the other goodies needed to get like 150rwhp more at the very least.

True....but you don't buy a supercharger and all the other goodies needed to get 150rwhp to help you stop at the end of a long straight away.

And if you look at Dropspeed, X25, Summit1LE's threads....there are options out there. From the budget minded racer to someone who wants the very best track performance to those who want the track and the street balanced in a nice aggressive brake package. Lots of good reading on these forums regarding what has worked for those in the past and lessons learned.

Quick search came up with this. 9.7k for the whole kit. The. If you track you have to factor in replacing the rotors and pads at a few thousand each time

You can safely use your factory 4 piston brembos and upgrade to a basic track set up like the cts v, then stoptech, then a set of AP racing radicals or forged monoblock brembos as those do cost an arm and a leg. If interested hit up Jeff at Essex parts for the AP set up. If you are truly interested in tracking, unless your pockets are filled with endless cash I don't know anyone that hasn't thought about it replaced carbon ceramics with a steel set up

So if the brake parts are off restriction does that mean the wheels are off restriction now as well?

Hi guys, I do appreciate your advice, and well I know of all the cons + cons about the ceramic.
I just wanted to know, if there is any experience with non Z28 upgraded to the Z28 brake package - e.g in regards to the suspension behaviour, daily driving, track experience,...
Keep in mind, that an upgrade to a 405mm, 6 piston brembo will cost me $4.700 - just the front...so $7-8.000 expense with a 4-5 times longer lifespan is an option.

I did a prototype carbon ceramic system for our cars through Racing Brake. I would be hesitant also If I had paid retail. Funny thing is some owners will drop that much in an engine build and not blink an eye. The other alternative is the AP Racing setup. I have used their brakes on another vehicle with good results overall. Not cheap but then again anything worth it won't be. The advantage with the carbon ceramics is better consistency and repeatability at the track when hot! No fading or soft pedal feeling with these brakes! You also can gain longer rotor life especially if you don't track your car every week. Just don't allow it to turn into a "bling mobile" rather than a track day machine.
