Tesla?
How many of the Camaro5 group owns, or has owned a Tesla?
I drove my neighbors new Tesla Model Y a couple of days ago. It's a dual motor and he let me step on it whenever we wanted while i took a quick 5 mile drive around town. It's nice inside but I don't like the exteriors of Teslas. He kept joking that now we gotta race. And he kept saying you gotta get one of these. I was polite the whole time and told him I love the car, but I'd never consider a Tesla. I am just not a Tesla guy. I have invested so much time and energy into my combustible engine. I have such an attachment to Monroe (my Camaro). As a father, working on my car is one of my top hobbies. I feel like i'd be ending that hobby if I bought a Tesla and sold Monroe. Yes it's fast. Not as fast as I was expecting. He bought the Long Range Tesla that does 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. Thoughts?

They are quick most of them would probably kick my cars ass, however I get great satisfaction blowing my tail pipe emissions in there open windows leaving a red light. I’m simple minded I know. I don’t care for them. The even bigger slap in the face is the Tesla’s are produced in the same plant that built my 69 K10 shortbed.

Fella here has one.
MEH. They look stamped out cookie cutter generic to me. My car certainly does not.

Well here’s my opinion the lower priced Tesla’s can’t touch our cars in acceleration.
The other ones cost more then twice the price of a Camaro. And those ones can’t run any distance at close to max power like the Camaro does. The p90s etc can’t do 20 laps at a decent size road course. And they can’t drive 50 or 60 miles to a 1/4 mile track do 10 runs and drive back. If I wanted a car that could only do that I would build a tube chassis car and be much faster then them. Last edited by Warship2k15; 09-21-2020 at 12:01 PM. |

The Tesla Roadster would be the only one I'd own and it's way out of my price range.

I'll take my car any day over any tesla. Unless it was given to me new and I could sell it for $100k and build a ZL1 or C7 corvette

Electric cars are a neat novelty. If there was one out there that could achieve my 100 - 150 miles per day commute that would get me home with half battery left then it may be an option for me. Truth - the 250 or whatever mile range given is bullshit. It may get that range at creep along in town speed but highway speeds and "real road driving" drop the range pretty quickly. Want to take a road trip on your Tesla from lets say Virginia to Arizona? Forget it, even if you can pick out a route that gets you to a charger every 200 miles or so that's 11 or 12 charge stops which take at least 30 minutes on a fast charger.
Tesla - their build quality is crap. Take a close look at a Tesla, paint, hood/trunk/door gaps, etc., they're assembled like a semi professional kit car would be. Secondly, if I buy a car I'll be damned if the manufacturer is going to block me from making changes in the software. It's MY damn car. Crash a Tesla - throw it away. I've read a lot about no parts availability and truth is most of the body shops I know won't touch them anyway. Unfortunately the art of the car enthusiast is dying. Truth is that the manufacturers don't want enthusiasts and flag wavers, they want people to buy their product, use it for 3 to 5 years, then throw it away and get another one. We are watching the demise of the auto industry as we know it. I'll continue to enjoy fossil fuel burning horsepower thank you very much. |

I think the Model Y looks like it got hit with the fugly stick. Someone around here has one with a two tone paint job and I swear it reminds me of my aunt’s old yellow and brown AMC Pacer from the 70s.
The Model S is great looking in my opinion and the Model 3 isn’t bad. The performance is pretty impressive - the biggest downside I see is the cost (high) and limited range. It’d be fine for basic daily commuting 20-30 miles one way but you still need a dino-burner if you want to take a trip anywhere. |
