I drive mine only in S mode, unless on the freeway.

Correction: If you're driving with the paddles you are in manual (tap shift) mode, NOT sport mode. If you were in just sport mode (M) you are not shifting.

I've done this a few times too! I usually drive a mix of manual and auto so its easy to forget which mode its in.

Lol im gonna get a lot of grief for this one but its kinda funny. I ONLY use my paddle shifters. So when im drinking my morning coffee on the way i sometimes use my knee to drive and, one hand to drink and the other hand to make sure no coffee gets onto my shirt or tie, Ive accidentally down shifted with my left knee :( thank god i never do it at fast speeds or high rpms/low gear but still, scares the shit out of me. and probably other passer byes as well

Anyway you don't need to move the shifter at all. Just hold the upshift paddle a few seconds and it goes back to sport mode.
I'm sorry, I don't have to move the shifter at all to go from M to R??? And yes, only does imply I didn't go far enough...thus the motor revving in neutral.

one good way to stop forgetting you are in sport mode is to never put it there.....
just use the paddle shifters in regular drive mode, after about twenty seconds of using the paddles in regular drive mode, the transmission automatically puts you back into regular drive.
I too have forgotten I was in Sport mode, it sux when you go to take off from a stop and realize a few seconds later that you need to shift the trans up manually.
within two weeks of having a Camaro I freaked out a bit when it seamed like the car was acting up and only because I accidently hit the shifter paddle while i was turning a corner and it just stayed in second gear, since I really didn't realize I accidentally hit the paddle I was just freakin out.....

I love driving it in S mode. So much more response from the car. When I switch back to D it feels as if the cars gone limp. Only thing that scares me about the S mode is sometimes when I am going down hill the car will downshift and the revs jump like 4500-5500 and ride there for a little.

In M without touching the shifters you're in sport mode, once you hit the shifters you're in manual mode.

Felix- speeding in my SS/RS

If you have a v6 , its got variable valve timing. Basically muscle car vtec. These cars love rpms(within reason) so dont worry. I dont use 6th gear and cruise at 70-75 in 5th gear 3500 rpms while getting 22 mpg usually.
