Aisin AY6 Trans Issues
hey there camaro community...
I don't own a Camaro, rather an X-Runner. But I believe that you guys have been cursed with the same transmission that is hated across the boards from the X-Runner community. The aisin AY6 6 speed. I was wondering what kinds of issues you guys were having with this transmission (weak clutches, horrible 1-2 shifts, any other shifting related issues when put under high load). Also any mods that you guys have come across for the trans. |

Personally, I don't like the shift from 1st to 2nd. It's really clunky and hard to do smooth. It's gotten better after 2000 miles but still nowhere near what it should be. Other than that my transmission has performed reasonably well.

What are the gear ratios you guys have in your trans?
Ours is setup like so.. * 1st 4.17 * 2nd 2.19 * 3rd 1.49 * 4th 1.19 * 5th 1.00 * 6th 0.85 |

This is from a specification dated Oct 2008. Got this from chevrolet.com about 6 months ago.
*1st 4.48 *2nd 2.58 *3rd 1.63 *4th 1.19 *5th 1.00 *6th 0.75 Reverse 3.67 Final drive ratio 3.27 Looks like we are geared a little lower in the first 3 gears. The V6 section has some threads on problems members are having. Mine seems to shift pretty smooth so far with about 3500 miles. Hope it stays that way. |

All of them have that "clunky" 1-2 feel, but I don't have any issues with it. Rev it up and pull it into 2nd. It goes just fine, just not a nice short throw like a Tremec with a Hurst or MGW or MTI shifter.
It's not a race transmission, but seems to handle the V6 power just fine.

So it appears as people put more miles on their car, and start pushing the trans more, issues are starting to arise.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60836 http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53301 As I stated in my first post, the AY6 is hated by the X-Runner community. There has been some small talk about getting an upgrade kit for it, but nothing. I've also heard that Level 10 is working on stuff for the AY6. Does anybody here know anything else about that? |

Same here, its smooths out after a couple thousand miles but its still clunky and shutters. It frustrates me so much sometimes.
